i had to leave a whole pot, about 15 lbs. of wbs, to soak for 72 hrs. because i couldn't get any time. they were left in my basement where the temp is around 50 degrees. i was wondering if i should just rinse and prep? if i should still give it a little simmer first? or if i should dump the whole thing and start from scratch? it doesn't smell much worse than it does after a 24 hr. soak. the grain is not mushy. they still feel pretty firm. any suggestions appreciated.

i want to just go ahead but thats a lot of seed and a lot of grain spawn and time i would end up wasting if the mycelium doesn't take to the grain. if i do go forward i think i'm going to skip the simmer. i was just wondering if anybody else has had success with grains soaked for that long.

Pour them in your neighbor's flowerbed. There will be a lush carpet of green sprouts withing a few days.

strain them out and pc them for an hour. Any excess water in the jar will absord into the seed

I would not use them after that long. Rye is cheaper than spawn. RR

Just to add my two cents. My last batch of WBS was soaked for 30hrs then simmered for much too long. I had tons of cracked kernels, I just rinsed the WBS really well with a hose and let dry.
I find cracked kernels stay suspended in the water just a few fractions of a second longer to allow them to be quickly poured out. Swirl it/dump a few times more depending on how many are cracked, and you are good to go. Ill admit I do get some clumping of the WBS after colonization is complete but it is nothing a sterile fork can fix.
I hate to waste stuff, I always make sure I save it if I can. I am not sure if this applies to your situation but, Cheers

none of the kernels are busted ratatat. they've just been soaking forever. i'm going to go ahead and prep them. i'll only do g2g with a couple of the jars and see what happens. if in 3-5 days time i see them colonizing, i will go ahead and do g2g with the rest of the jars. thanx for all of yall's input. i'll update in a few days. trial and error is the only way to really know. so what the hell. i'll experiment.

To be honest Ive had my wbs in water for a week before. I didnt simmer either. I saw no difference in it this way compared to overnight soaking and simmering.
I also once left wbs in water for 10 days and that was just gross...
I dont really have an opinion. I just try everything at least once before I decide if its a good idea to keep doing.
