Try suvorexant (Belsomra).  It's the first ever dual-orexin receptor antagonist and has a mechanism of action unique from any other sleep aid.

and a dubious medical history (read: consecutive studies hidden from the public). Suvorexant - ODD

GHB(sodium oxybate) and sleep.

GHB induces a sleep that is entirely natural. The duration and organization of the sleep stages is preserved, and growth hormone release is actually increased[20]. In fact, abnormal sleep patterns like those of narcoleptics* and insomniacs* become more typical[77]. While users of other tranquilizers may be difficult to awaken, GHB users (at low doses) remain completely responsive to ordinary stimulus, from pain to bladder pressure.

The benzodiazepenes might be of use but are in some sense more insidious than alcohol; while moderate drinkers can avoid hangover, benzos can create a similar syndrome even when used as directed. Some of these substances have a half-life of many hours. Subjects may still have active quantities in their blood the next morning, and thus remain groggy and "drugged. Hence I dont suggest benzodiazepenes, and don't use them either (as much as i'd want to...)

GHB, in comparison, has a very short half-life and no active metabolites (c2o and h2o, breath properly :smile). After about 4 hours it is entirely consumed, changed into simple carbohydrates and thence expelled as carbon dioxide and water. In fact, its effects are so short-lived that it has been judged inappropriate for subjects who awaken easily and need something that will keep them sedated throughout the night.

Now I highlighted the last sentence because that doesn't apply to me, I have a lot of difficulties falling asleep but when i'm asleep I won't wake back up again untill rested (or the fucking clock).

I took one dose per night, slept like a baby, woke up refreshed and even energized (dopamine rebound, I love it). I've heard of more experiences where people have to take a second dose which is entirely possible if you go to sleep at 10pm and 4 hours later the GHB is expelled that leaves you at 2am. Now the dosing gets even trickier if you get to this point, wake up at 6am but if it isn't metabolized properly you will still be intoxicated slightly (or heavy depending on how properly you dose)

it's really, really dose-dependent, very addictive if you go above the two doses and the withdrawals are unbearable. It's a miraclecure, how could it not be being a hormone native to our brain.

I've ceased most drugs, i've tried it all but mistress sleep doesn't succumb... Concoctions of antipsychotics and neuroleptics. For a long time it were dissociatives and my bladder tells it + you'll get strung out unless you know you have the sedative kind and even that wears you out.

Cannabis is... okay..-ish. I like it but I dislike how I will eat too much which is bad for sleep anyhow, that i'll have cottonmouth which is bad for your teeth and breath whilst sleeping. Could be better.

fuck all that .. xanax to go to sleep, trazadone to stay asleep and not keep waking up. Taking me years of trying every combo to find that.. Xanax or any strong benzo first then the traz. good luck

Trazadone works pretty well, it can give some people horrible nightmares though. Other than that, it's pretty safe and not habit forming.

I've taken trazodone for 3 years. It works but you don't drift off to sleep. It's like walking the plank to sleep, and if you don't take enough to knock you out for a full nights sleep, you wake up seeing lsd like trails(not fun though). Anyone who takes it knows first hand it has negative recreational value which makes this tazodone erowid experience vault hilarious.  http://www.erowid.org/experiences/subs/exp_Pharms_Trazodone.shtml

I laughed my ass off just reading the titles

my favorite sleep med is hands down Clonidine.

Its so clean, effective, doesn't have a hangover effect, and non-habit forming.

everything you want in a sleep med, clonidine has.

Existing before Heaven and Earth,
Silent, still, standing alone, unchanging,
All-pervading, unfailing,
I do not know its name; I call it tao.
If forced to give it a name, I call it
Great (ta). Being great, it flows out;
Flowing out means far-reaching;
Being far-reaching, it is said to return.

It's just a shot away..

SHort acting benzos such as Etizolam or Xanax WILL put you too sleep and will have you awake feeling rested because of there short duration of action
