.... RealPlayer
Intentionally malware-loaded piece of shit! No wonder AOL uses it.

It boggles me that all of you people hate windows so much, and I've been using it for like, 15 years and have never had a problem.
I dont understand it!

i dont hate windows..
i've even had experience with linux/macintosh/unix and i've been using windows since 3.1..
i do have a deep seeded hatred for windows ME, though.
that was the buggiest OS they've had (in my experience) and it would crash nonstop..
i finally went back to win98 second edition until win2k pro came out.. that was such a glorious day!
xp was pretty rough before the service packs..
i'm pretty impressed with vista. haven't had a problem with it and it looks sexy on my 32" samsung :P
i really hate itunes though..

Good, I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought ME was the cast off bastard son of the windows world. I didn't find 98se much better either. I was plesantly surprised with win2k, and well, they havent been able to better that yet.

Realplayer and Quicktime
Windows ME was also very crappy! I like 2000/XP. There is a lot that could be better and I can talk for hours about crappy Microsoft things, but XP does most things I want.

agreed...
you could turn that shit on, and in a day or so it would inevitably crash without the user even executing any program or doing anything...
and if you actually tried to use it for something... watch out. Better save that paper every 5 minutes

As long as you stay part of the Microsoft family, and buy Microsoft happy hardware, and buy Microsoft software, and play the way Microsoft wants you to play, and you don't try to talk to anybody outside of the Microsoft family, and don't mind paying inflated monopolistic prices then Windows is perfect for you. Unfortunately, most of us don't fit the above mold, and Microsoft does everything their monopolistic might will allow in order to force us back into the Microsoft fold. Microsoft is the school yard bully. If you are friends with the bully, then the bully doesn't seem so bad.
From a professional standpoint, Microsoft has done more to harm the computer industry than all other companies combined. Their idea of innovation is to buy up everything that they can, regardless of their desire to use it, just to avoid possible future competition. Rather than simply ignore industry standards, they change the standards for their own use, breaking compatibility with everybody else. They destroy anybody that tries to compete against them, thus nobody will invest in companies that directly compete against Microsoft. I could go on for hours...

Oooh that was crap in so many ways. My computer had something like 64 MB memory, 800 megahurtz, pay-per-minute dialup that kept bleeding out and it ran on WinME. OUCH.

Use Nod32 by Eset. Best software EVAR. I've installed this into a virus infested system and it just chilled there weeding out viruses left and right. Really good program. 's up.

Yes, NOD32 is pretty much the #1 AVG software out there (that is not free)
If you want free (legit), it's AVG.
And to be fair justyn, Limewire used to be alright back in the day. Then it very quickly went downhill. I used to get tons of music from that service. I'm actualy pretty sad it got fucked, since it was so easy.

You managed to uninstall it? That thing is still has vestiges left on my pc after manually uninstalling (such as taskbar icon). I've even gone into the registry and still cant find where its hiding. I''ll track it down when I have more time but an uninstall shouldn't be that damn hard.
I still have to agree with those who selected real player. Intrusive piece of shit with auto-loading updates which hog resources. This thing has a mind of its own and it harder to get rid of than an STD.
As far as OS goes, Windows ME. I used to work tech support and most of our complaints were from users of ME.

i haven't used windows in years so i won't comment on it
for linux there are a lot of what i would call shitty programs
for my distro there is an updater program called swaret which on a couple occasions ruined the os when i was trying to advance my version
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swaret
generally speaking older versions of xine, gxine were very buggy and mplayer was the only way to watch videos... however the latest versions are a lot better and i use them sometimes
juk is a pretty horrible buggy music player
there are a lot of bad programs on linux really, especially from my perspective since i compile source code
for example, to get my digital camera working with digikam i had to compile almost a dozen separate programs and libraries, but once i have it going it works great
also i had a lot of problems with my printer because the company that makes it (hp) didn't bother to make a linux version, but someone made some good drivers later on and now it works flawlessly

Is there anything better than itunes? I think it the best of the worst. Is there a music player that exists that I don't know about? Please don't say winamp. I hate winamp. Its like the Windows Media Player on steroids.

what the hell is wrong with winamp?
it is the shit.
why do people talk shit about winamp? it's the best one out there..
and definitely the most customizable to suit your interests/needs/preferences..
they pretty much invented application skinning and the visualization studio (avs)..

what's wrong with this?
Memory hog, CPU hog, early versions (for Win 9x) left problematic .vxd drivers after uninstalling, modern versions aren't prone to that because they are more un-uninstallable, random errors, random crashes (specially when installing drivers, if you can), poor customer support...
The most important drawback is the performance. I don't really understand how can it be so slow and use so many resources. Machines with Panda automatically lose all responsiveness they could have. Where I work we used Panda in Windows 2000 testing machines and found disk performance of a Dell 2 GHz Xeon with a SCSI disk on pair with a generic Pentium III 500 with IDE disk, not to mention the undesired swapping, potentially slowing other applications. The Pentium III outperformed the Xeon in rsync tasks by a factor of 6, turning a completely I/O-bound task into a CPU-bound one.
It was also fun that in the rsync tasks it detected 68000/Dragonball asm code as a virus.

Panda will also spam the hell out of your email. I don't know how they got my email address since I never used their product but I dislike them for that alone.
