terrarium lighting Q:

i have just put my first brf cakes into their fruiting chamber. i only have 10 cakes and a two-foot terrarium with about 5 inches of perlite.
so far my temps have been between 72 and 79 and my humidity is staying at 99%.
my question is... is it necessary to use a flourescent daylight bulb for the 12 on? i am having trouble finding an inexpensive 6000K + bulb and fixture. for now i've just been using window light.
Reading up on the subject with posts here at the shroomery, i found RR's tip to use the high intensity bulbs, and that it is very important for a good pinset and abundant flush... but is he just talking to those with a substrate casing layer for the bulb's light to penetrate?
or is it necessary for cakes also?
and if so, where would i get a bulb like that? please help!

As far as I know, indirect sunlight or just daylight should be enough, 12/12 is a good idea and a natural cycle.. I think you'll be ok, I used daylight for all my cakes so far and they all turned out ok, although I recently built another fruiting chamber and decided to put it in the closet and am using a >5100K light to test it out.. Either way, you should get good results.

I personally feel lighting is overrated. I simply use whatever light is in my room already, nothing more and always get satisfactory results

Try a daylight compact fluerescent.
KillerPickles, good strong light source could be the difference between acceptible results and exceptional results.

Buy a daylight rated (6000k) CFL (compact fluorescent light). YOu know, the electricity saving bulbs.
They are dirt cheap and fit into a standard bulb fixture so it will take you no time whatsoever to set it up.

I'll definetely have to try adding a quality light source then. I must admit, I dont get exceptional results, just fairly good.
this will be my next expansion to my grow

I don't live in the US, but I buy that kind of stuff at a don't know how you'd call it... mebbe Hardware store. You know, the kind of shop that sells electrical cable, hinges, doorknobs, silicone, pvc tubing, wood, lightbulbs, all that sort of stuff for DIY.

We've got Home Despot, Lowes, Hobby Lobby, and Walmart (if you're desperate) in the US.
