i used to hear that it would work until RR stepped in and said temperature drop is not a pinning trigger for cubensis. i'm sure there are still some that think it does. due to RR's expertise, i tend to lean towards his advise over most others.

Those who put cakes in the fridge during dunking (some people don't) do so because it invites less of a chance for contamination while the cakes are being bathed in water. Folks might think they are putting their cakes in the fridge to "cold shock" them during the dunk, but apparently cubensis, being a tropical mushroom, does not respond to cold shocking.
Put your cakes in the fridge during dunking to help prevent contamination -- don't put your trays in the fridge, though.

you shouldn't have a problem with contamination during dunking in or out of the fridge. a fully colonized cake is fairly contam resistant

Sure, though every little bit helps....

RogerRabbit said: yepyepyep, it's important to define what you mean by cold shocking. Are you talking a one week drop in temperatures, or dunking in the refrigerator overnight? In my use of the terms, the former is cold shocking, while the latter is just good practice, which hydrates the substrate in the relative safety of cooler temperatures to keep contaminants at bay. RR

Even if they are resistant, dunking outside the fridge, especially in warm summer time, risks bacterial bloom appearing.

Personaly i dont use the fridge, but it doesnt get very warm most of the time where i am, in a cool dry cupboard is fine for me, i guessing that in my kitchen the temperuture is like 15C
But agree that its good practice to do it, my fridge isnt big enough to fit the pot i use.
