Both light and dark produce entirely different types of visuals, at least in my experience. Last night I tripped on an 8th alone (which made the visuals a lot stronger) and in the light everything had rainbow light eminating from it and everything was waving. The edges on everything were really soft, and every edge seemed rounded.
In the dark, it was completely different. I saw colorful patterns all over my vision that would dance and talk to me. It was like the visuals you get when you close your eyes at night to fall asleep, but 100x stronger and with my eyes open. Closing my eyes in the dark turned my visuals almost 3d.
I prefer the dark visuals but they're both interesting. Experiment with both.

Headphones, music, and your eyes closed would be a much better treat for your brain then the television.
Although, there are some really good movies to watch while under the effects of the magic mushrooms..

At clear night, far away from city lights. The sky gets pretty funky at times like that.
Also watching sunsetting or rising at seashore gets sooooooooooooooooooo beautiful.
Watching city reflection on sea at night is quite amazing as well.
Mirrors.
Closed eyes are obvious.

Watching TV will take away from the trip, it'll put your focus elsewhere. If you're looking for strong visuals just sit in a completely dark room with maybe a little soft music playing.
TV i find always dulls a trip, it's good if things get too intense and your alone if you just wanna ground yourself a bit. A good movie however can be a great catalyst for an interesting trip, especially if it's on a large high def screen with surround sound.

I enjoy visuals in a light setting
the dark seems to make the detail fade from whatever visuals I'm getting, but that's just me.

While tripping in school they other day I got crazy colors from the all white rooms. White walls, white floors, white ceilings, and white fluorescents will make you see alot of colors you never knew existed.

From my experience, a darker room allows for colors and visuals to happen easier. My dorm in college had 2 blacklights that had a plastic green casing, so when they were turned on, there was the blacklight effect and also the room was green. Normally, with the blacklights on, my walls were green. But an acid, they just were constant changing colors like in my avatar

Thanks!
that was even earlier in the year. later, I had the part of the ceiling above my bed covered with posters. So imagine this hanging over the head of the bed looking down at you:

Surprisingly it wasn't scary. Infact, my friend stared at it for like 30 minutes and had a great trip and named it.
Also, the "Fear and Loathing" was done with scotch tape. Not the clear kind, but the kind that's kind of frosted looking. It glows very well in blacklighting.

candles in the darkness with dark objects all around, and with crap on the walls. Clutter.............
Thats the only thing I have to say.
A dimly lit room(in other words).
Lighting is only so important to me, but if you want massive visuals, its all about the darkness with a little bit of light.

I'll tell you what, I don't think you should watch TV while tripping AT ALL. It's a waste of the sacred experience - you could be sitting in a 100% darkened room sifting through your own psyche, exploring your hidden subconscious mind like the Aztecs and so many others preferred to do... rather than being distracted by the physical anchors of sex, consumerism, advertising and materialism that TV will inevitably throw in your face any chance they get to sell a product that we don't even need.
Camping in a secluded forest and waiting til nightfall.
That's my favorite setting for visuals... it leaves so much room for interpretation when you can't actually see anything

Maybe I've just smoked too much weed or there's something in the water, but I don't get visuals anymore. LSA doesn't do it, mescaline doesn't do it, mushrooms don't do it. I just get a really trippy body load with time distortion. I wish I could find some LSD again...

I used to never get visuals at all now i get them all the time (i only do shrooms), if youve lost visuals and want them back do a hit of nitrous on shroomz!
I think that thinking is better than visuals, they are cool but when you find your getting into and out of your mind you dont really get visuals as your understanding how the universe works, not tripping out like "dude i just saw a unicorn!"
One of the best things for visuals is the laser cosmos, it becomes a mosiaac of stars all working perfectly together, also itunes visualiser is amazing when peaking! Planet earth on bluray is good but you only get visuals from the water scenes i find. Trees are amazing too! Flowing water is probably the best though.

nature at night is my favorite. westfield state college campus in general is sweet. the paths turn into rivers, the trees have eyes, everything is made of cannabis and mushrooms cover the ground. i dont like TV on mushrooms. a waste of time IMO

maybe a bit restricting but necesarry because its hard to not open your eyes when tripping in a room with people
maybe blacked out goggles so you can open your eyes in complete blackness

If you want visuals, stay away from light!
The best environment for visuals is your closet or any other similar area deprived of light and sound.
Here's the key to receiving glorious visuals: eliminate all forms of external stimulation (Hint: Turn off the lights!). This results in the mind interpreting internally projected stimuli, which produces visuals. If the mind isn't given anything to perceive, it will create, on its own, stimuli to perceive.

Little light in a room allows for more visual embellishment.
Thats why I say that a dimly lit room is best.
I see visuals no matter where I am.
I also prefer a dimly lit room. If I was looking for visuals its all about a dimly lit room, or the outdoors at night. Dimly lit areas. Lots of dark, with a bit of light.

there are many different environments that will give you different types of visuals.
the "best" (not the most, or the clearest, ect) visuals are walking through a forest in the fall, when the ground is completely covered in dead leaves, but the trees still have some color to them. as the sun is just starting to go down.
can anyone disagree?

I could, but I can't so I WON'T
Recently, though, I prefer a room merely because it provides the most comfort when playing guitar and discerning the visual relationship between the music and the experience.
Nature would probably PWN me and force me to lay my guitar down.
Unless maybe I tried to write a song about the good ol' mother.
I should try it!
Thanks for the idea, Truekimbo2!

oh my gawd. playing guitar (or any instrument for that matter - but especially drums...) on any psychadelic is the most amazing experience EVER. i was playing but, when i sit and play for long periods of time i usually lay my head on the guitar's body cause.. it's comfortable.
and.. when i did, the fretboard became another dimensional plane, and i was god of it - if there was one thing i was in control of, it was these 6 strings that, in my mind, began to represent sub-dimensions.. really coincides with the string theory .
ever since then.. that's how i've viewed it.
acoustic guitar is great when your out in the woods, in the moment, but when i'm home and with my electric.. the sounds i can make, oohhhh shit. it's like bending reality.

Exactly, because as I have stated before, I think music is like a microcosm of reality, that is essentially a metaphor for "consensus" reality--And that is why it hits us so hard, at many levels.
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/7816005#7816005
Theories which the source was fun, lol.
To keep on the enviornment topic, though, and to continue to relate to music, I find the more complex the music is, the better it is to have something complex to stare at; What you are looking at better correlates to the music if said visual can be considered complex; all subjective?
A cluttered room with some clean areas to visualize everything from the complexities of Transiberian Orchestra to the beautiful simplicities of Marley.
I care less and less about environment, as I trip more and more, as the enviornment manifests itself psychologically and metaphorically, rather than physically.

A mostly dark room with a little bit of light, definitely. Candles or glowsticks and blacklights work best, IMO. With this setup, you can still kind of tell the general shapes and forms in reality but everything becomes hallucinatory.
Dark is neat but different. Light is neat but different, too. However, the method I outlined above is the best indoors scenario, IMO.
Nature at night is the best environment, though.

I once walked through forest before dawn while coming up on acid. There was no real sunshine, but you would still see everything. Due to he fact that there was no sunshine, you couldn't see no colors. With your regular eyes anyway. But the colors that came from your third eye applied to the real world. So all the trees, bushes, and grass appeared in bright orange and pink tones. It was craaazy.

I think a dark room with a candle as the lighting would be sweet
A dark forest would be amazing too, like notapillow said, a redwood forest... man that would be sweet

yeah if you want visuals close your eyes, i always have insane 3d closed eye visuals on shrooms. Then again the shrooms i have are so strong, i always get pretty crazy visuals. Stucco ceiling is really crazy to look at, trippy artwork too.
You want some mind-boggling shit play the game Portal in the Half life 2 orange box on shrooms. Man i did that and it takes that game to a whole other level.

The thing about a candle is that it flickers.
I need a still source of light, so I used to use two night lights I had when I was a kid.
I cant tell you all how many times I wanted that fucking candle light to settle down. Although the flam did have its own persona and had much to do with the trips that it flickered its way into.
I moved on to night lights and other tiny light sources. I liked low doses alot, so sometimes I wanted the light to be just right because on a high dose Its either the still dark or a long walk at night(for me).
Small amounts of light in a totally dark room, alone.
If I wanted ridiculous visuals thats what I would do.
I dont look for visuals in the way that some people might. I do have a feeling that this is most conducive to massive visuals though.
As someone else said. There is nothing like "fall". That shit is unreal in broad daylight, much like any other setting, but almost more so.
Its all breathtaking......Every setting. Dark and death/the end/the unknown. light and life, the end/the unknown. The middle ground, is just more palpable. Archetypes rule that word of preference.
A dimly lit room. Seems to fit for me.
We are only lightning rods headed directly toward the divine.
"any color you like"<---------------> pink floyd. Thats the song...................lol
Ya, that song cant do you wrong, and that much light and darkness in any setting cant do you wrong.
Any color you like.......................

Stay indoors. Green light wavelengths in nature will entirely affect your body's wakefulness for the trip, which will in turn affect the intensity of visuals. Indoors, you can become as comfortable as you find you can, which will put your body in a more "sleep-like" mode, thereby increasing the dream-like aspects of the trip.

"Echoes" by Pink Floyd off of Meddle. That song is ridiculous.
If you can, sync it up to the last sequence of the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey.

I watched planet earth while tripping and it was totally mind blowing.

I'm sure it was, heh.
I have to give an exception for Discovery Channel, because channels like that are the few that I actually consider time-worthy. Seriously.. the only channels I watch are History, Animal Planet, and Discovery.
I'd watch the Science Channel if I got it.
Learning is always fun.
