Have you written letters of complaint and gotten anything sweet in return? [update: I did]

I've done it twice, once with the Jell-O company and another time with Mike & Ike, got free stuff in both cases. I had a shitty experience at the Apple Store yesterday, and my laptop though only 2 and a half years old apparently died of logic board frying failure of some sort. The dude I dealt with at customer support was a total prick. So I wrote up a letter to Apple about how all this was enough to end 24 years of brand loyalty on my part. Which isn't true at all - but I'm just trying to get some free shit. Whether it's a free-of-charge sending in my computer for full repairs, or a $100 rebate on a future purchase, or even a $25 gift card to iTunes or something, I want some free shit for my frustration.

I saw a thing on 60 minutes once about a dude that virtually made a career of scamming airlines by complaining about the tiniest, but real, things, netting himself tons of flights all over the world.

no, but in 5th grade we had to write a "formal" letter to a business as an assignment. i wrote to red lobster telling them they should sell alligator. they sent me back a letter saying some stores in some states do sell alligator, thanks for the complement, and included was a $25 gift card

Not quite but in scouts I had to write a letter to a company of my choice. I sent a letter to frito lay (cheetoes, fritos, doritos) and they sent my back like $100 in coupons and merchandise.

I wrote a letter to Ben & Jerry's because I found a hair in a pint of their ice cream. About two or three months later I received an apology letter personally written to me and hand signed with with four coupons for four free pints. The lady even apologized for taking so long to get back to me and threw in a couple of extra coupons for it. That experience made me want to keep giving them my business.

When I was like 12 or 13 I ate Jell-o all the time and all of a sudden the caps got unbelievably impossible to peel off, you had to attack them with some sort of blade. It pissed me and my mom off so we wrote a letter and got probably $50 in coupons for free Jell-o. Mike and Ike I complained about not getting a single green piece in a box of em and they sent us a sampler pack of all that company's candies.

It's good business to keep regular customers happy. And I really have been supporting Apple for my entire life.

It really meant a lot to me to get a personal letter of apology. It shows they truly care about customer satisfaction and someone actually took the time to read my letter.

Oh and my mom used some turtle wax that messed up her car. They sent her an unmarked bottle that worked better then anything else I've seen.
