the bags are fruiting already??? wtf???

yes, that is what i said when i saw my two 5lb hpoo bags, still not fully colonized, with one fat mush growing on one.
first - Im assuming that a contaminant worked its way into the bag, if they are fruiting without full colinization.
However Im a little unsure how this can happen - if it is not the spore syringe, is it the dirty closet that could have condemned full growth? call it ignorance, or being a noob, but i took the word filter, (ie. 'filter patch') as 'no contams will enter this bitch'. So whats up?
As well - I cannot mention the bags i used as they are not sponsors, however they are EXCELLENT. I may very well be living in a cardboard box...the temp in my room has dropped a few times to the 50's - but colinization kept going.
any ideas on what to do better next time, or what may have went wrong would be greatly appreciated.
thanks, C

substrates do not have to be fully colonized to fruit.

snap!! this is great news. thanks guys!!
OK, i did not want to open the bags because of potential contaminants getting to what the mycelium has not gotten to, so should i only open the bags when the flush looks uniform and complete?
also, when flush #2 becomes an issue, do i simply dunk it and scrape off the uncolonized matter?
thanks again, C

From what I understand...drop in temp is one of the pinning triggers.

wrong, temperature drop is not a pinning triger. Not for tropical species.

doesn't light tell the myc to pin ??? did you give it light for a long period of time. i would say the down side would be that it is not going to have all the nutrition and possibly bigger area for more mushies to pop up.but that would depend on the amount of sub that isn't col. i could be wrong though.

Pinning triggers are
FAE Humidity Light
Lights a funny one, i have heard of substrate jars been kept out in the light to colinise without any invitro pinning.
Every one of my PF tek jars get exposed to light every 3 or so days, and has never caused pinning. It may be different for grain bags though.

I think some of the teks still mention it in not so many words as being a pinning trigger.
I have heard of fully colinised substrate fruit at equal to or greater than colinising temps.
Fruiting temps i would imagine have more effect on speed of fruit development, density of fruits and humidity

perhaps it was a little bit o light then, i would check up on them every few days, and of course i would have to put some light on them to see whats been going on.
how bout these questions tho ^^^
thanks again

Temperature is not one of the major pinning triggers with tropical species, but I've seen very low temperatures cause uncolonized substrates to begin fruiting. I think it may be part of the normal survival mechanism.
I'd watch the mycelium, and if it has stopped expanding, go ahead and open it up and wash off all the uncolonized parts with running water, and then place what's left into fruiting conditions.
Light has little to no effect on colonizing mycelium. I colonize all of my substrates in an open room exposed to ambient room light the whole time. Pinning only begins when fruiting conditions are introduced, other than when something goes wrong. RR
