lack of pinning confusion

i placed a grain cake of mazatapec in the terr. 20 days ago. the cake was dunk, rolled, and cold shocked and still hasnt shown any signs of pinning. after dunking and rolling the verm showed very fast growth, leading to hyphal knots. then everything just stopped. there are no signs of contamination, the terr. reeks of mush, air exchange 6-7 times/day, humidity perfect, temp at 74 F. it took almost a month to colonize the entire jar so i was wondering if this had anything to do with it. i used only one cake because the other jars are for casing in coir. will this have any effect on my casing as well?

since there is no growth on the cake for 20 days, how about dunking again and casing?

I would try this. Wait for people to reply. Bumping your own thread makes people want to ignore you.

Grain substrates should be cased. You talk about grain "cakes" being dunked and rolled. A casing holds the moisture content better.. Anyway, I am confused , did you really use grain or brown rice flour?

That's not a bad idea. They are probably dried out after 20 days - that is, if you really created a "grain cake".

i used whole wheat flour. ive grown tc using the same flour in the past both with cakes and casings and had awesome results. i decided to try something new (maza) since i have casing and cakes under my belt. didnt go as planned though. im casing my other jars of tc and maza as i speak! this whole place smells like coconut husk

I had to do this on my very first set of cakes, they sat for ages and started to bruise from drying out, dunked again and they started to pin.
Re-roll dry verm, and keep it nice and moist. Cakes like being wet.
If you are worried about causing aborts, fan afterwords to dry any large droplets that may have landed on them
