That would put a lot of mycologists out of business.

I think a mycologist is a scientist/researcher. To do that you need 4 years of biology as an undergraduate, 5 years of graduate school to get your PhD and a few eyars in a post-doc position getting experience. I think there is only one college that offers serious mycology classes, and that is in Pennsylvania.
Otherwise if you just want to work around mushrooms, you could try an entry level position at a mushroom farm like Prisoner#1 says.

i know its not mycology but..... i used to work for a fire, water, and mold damage service. basicly they got there money through the insurance companys. honestly i worked there for a year and it was the worst job i ever had. my first real mold damage was at a preschool. a air conditioner was leaking into a class room and they just closed the room off for like 2 months... when they opened back up there was green mold almost 2 inches thick on the carpet. What was also very crazy was that you could see little finger prints everywhere in green mold because the mold was eating dead skin cells from finger tips. and yes i did have to clean it all up!!!!!with full tyvek suites ,breathers and air scrubber going.
