People who had cops search their house and/or seize their computer..

I was wondering.. Were pirated media and the like added to the charges made against you? Or were they just after drugs and the like?

If it happened to someone you know, and you're sure they did or did not include pirated media etc, that'd be good also.

I never heard of cops busting anyone for pirate media unless it is a specifically targetted raid against a pirate media producer.

First off, the cops can only take with them, what the warrant says they can take. If they took the computer, then there is something on the computer they want. That would be a file. The friend was either hacking a well funded coporation, looking at child porn, or giving out free music and movies. Take your pick.

Cops can take whatever they want. They can only prosecute you for what's on the warrant.

Had a co-worker arrested for pirating. He was one of those guys that sets up a P.O.box and was selling copied software discs for cash. After being stopped here for something completely unrelated they ran a make and a warrant popped up from another state for pirating charges. After arresting him they seized around 90 hard drives from his apartment.

Another employee was arrested for being a bank robber but that is another story.

Yes I work with scumbags.

I had a friend that got pulled over for swirving between the lines a bit. (tipsy). He and his bro were both taken in for DUI. He had a laptop in his car (full of mostly fetish porn) And the cops took it and would not let him have it back until after his court date.

Another dude I know got his house searched by the police. He pulled some stupid shit after dosing shrooms and the cops come by and snag his plastic bins of perlites and yet to pin casings. He did the whole court and probation visit things. He said that his probie told him that his bin of trays got pushed to the back of the evidence room where it was left and then one day someone noticed it was full of fat mature shrooms.
