birthed cakes too early i think
    #7837994 - 01/06/08 01:23 AM (16 years, 27 days ago)

I birthed my cakes 3 days after they were completely colinized I thought. This is my first grow and I think I rushed things. If I did so, can I still get fruits out of them? My conditions are high Humidity and lots of small holes all over the chamber I have been fanning and misting when I wake up and before I go to sleep. I have 2 night lights on the lid for light of course should I change those or will they work? The Temps are going from 69 - 74.

you should be fine dude.. it's more a safe option than a necessity.. usually.

it just helps get the mycelium network stronger (the extra week)

It is recomended to wait 5-7 days after the outside apears cully colinised.

You shouldnt have any problems, they might take a little longer to pin, but they will still fruit.

The reason we wait 5-7 days is to allow the mycelium to get a hold of the entire substrate.

If you fruit early, it will just sit colinising whats left colinising.

I give my pf teks at least 5 days before i dunk them, my first few grows i was the same and birthed early, took longer to pin.

Your temps r fine

As for the light, incandescent lighting while does work, a compact fluerescent in the daylight range(6000-7000k) will give much better results

As veda said, the extra week is for the mycelium to consolidate it's hold on the substrate. If you birth them earlier they will just sit in the Fruiting Chamber doing nothing for a few extra days, so make sure you mist them and dunk and roll them to avoid them drying out in this period of inactivity.
