I've stored mushrooms for a few days in a cupboard before cloning and it was successful. make sure you swab it with iodine to clean it up before you do your agar work.

yeah there's always lc cloning or I like doing clone to grain every once in a while. but cloning to agar allows you to make sure your clone is clean and also transfer to a slant for specimen preservation

Have never attempted a clone yet, i have kept fresh mushrooms for upto 5 days in the fridge.
However the longer you keep them the more exposed they get to contaminants, its better to clone them when very fresh.
I know RR has great success soaking tissue in a bleach solution before cloning.
The cleanest upi get the tissue the better, the less transfers, resulting in a younger generation of myc (thats the way i see it anyways)

I didn't ever see a post where rr ever suggested cleaning tissue with bleach. only iodine. just tried searching with no avail. can you find a link for us?

Using search engine, I typed in Clone Bleach, and username RogerRabbit.
The first post the search turned up was this http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/5925703#5925703
Quote:
regularly dip cultures from the wild into ten percent bleach before transferring to agar to kill mold spores and bacteria, but it doesn't harm the live culture. That's why spraying bleach on the black mold around your bathtub or window sills does nothing.
Iodine is very effective against microbes. When I clone, I wash the whole mushroom with iodine before cutting out a section to transfer, which is then dipped into ten percent bleach.
Peroxide will help prevent mold in your humidifiers. Many experienced mycologists also use peroxide to dip cultures before transferring to agar. I prefer not to use it for that purpose except for when transferring dry tissue because of the damage it causes at the cellular level, which the fungi must then recover from.
