wbs colonizing question
    #7836419 - 01/05/08 04:48 PM (16 years, 27 days ago)

when my wbs is fully colonized fluffy on top and everything, and i shake it up before mixing with substrate it almost looks like regular birdseed again. i mean it goes from a complete white fluffy cake, to shaken up almost regular looking birdseed, and it doesn't look quite as "nice".i mean i can deff. see the myc in the seed, but it just looks way better before breaking it up. anyways my question is if i shake it up, and then wait for it to cake up again, would that provide healthier/stronger myc?

and also, when breaking up my jars do you think it would be beneficial to leave some of the wbs myc in larger clumps? to maybe help with faster colonization...or something? Ive had grows that haven't completely colonized the substrate before, maybe due to moisture, to much coffee, not enough spawn, whatever who knows, but this around i used a much much small spawn/substrate ratio. would these larger clumps of myc help with colonization?

i believe if you leave clumps it won't colonize as fast. that's the reason you bust up the clumps completely. each individual piece of wbs will get to more uncolonized substrate than a clump will. i've only used rye grain, but i think it's the same concept with wbs. someone jump in and correct me if i'm wrong since i haven't used wbs.

You're right norml... That's the whole idea behind spawning grains to bulk substrates... and the added nutrients from the grain...
