I calibrated and I had 92 last night, but thats as high as it got. This morning it is at 80. It seems that the top layer of perlite keeps drying out and all of the water receeds to the bottom layer. This is so annoying, i've had problems at every stage of my growing experience.

Unless you're leaving the lid completely off, your hygrometer is crap. Perlite will retain moisture for at least six weeks, usually longer.
What procedure did you use to calibrate, and what type of hygrometer? RR

Its a $4 Acurite thermometer/hygrometer from Wal-Mart, that I calibrated by placing in a moist paper towel for 30 mins. and then resetting. When I sleep I crank my air conditioner, but its in a closet that stays a bit warmer than the rest of the house, could the dry air be affecting it?

Thanks RR and Veda you guys are always giving good advice. I got it to 100% they just needed to be calibrated better. Im still gonna go out and get a better hygrometer, but for now the acurite's will have to do.

Boycott walmart. We don't allow them in my city, but when I lived in Texas, I'd drive fifty miles when necessary to avoid spending even one cent of my money in that chinese importing, worker busting, republican party supporting, community destroying store.
You can get a quality hygrometer for under $15 at a cigar shop. Search my name and 'calibrate hygrometer' for the procedure I recommend. RR
