Want to start again! Need Info
    #7835327 - 01/05/08 12:22 PM (16 years, 27 days ago)

Hello,
I'm new to this forum but like it so far. When I was younger I experimented with growing P.Cubensis. Now I would like to try to grow portobello or some other edible. Could someone please tell me of one of the easier ones to cultivate. Also medium, substrate, caseing and temp humidity requirements. i dont want to use a kit, I like to start from scratch. I have the bob hall book but its not very indepth into any specific species (other than P.Cubensis). If you guys could supply some informative links too please THANKS!

Oyster mushrooms are probably the easiest edible mushroom to grow, they will grow on just about anything with cellulose in it, newspaper, straw, coffee grounds, ect. There is no casing needed with oyster, though they can be grown with one.

Check out these to links.

Portabellas are somewhat harder to grow, in that they need an active casing layer. They are usually grown on pastuerized compost, though they can be fruited on grain.
