A favorite of mine here, a Phil Lesh song when he actually had a great voice and his classical music training comes through in his early rock inroads.
this was recorded on January 24, 1969 at the Avalon ballroom in S.F
Smoke a doob put the head phones on and listen to a true great Bass player!
I Don't think he was playing a six string that early but his range is very special!
Shine on my friends!
i hope you listen to the entire 12 minutes and enjoy!

I would like to submit a song that has special meaning to me and Ripple. Although it's recorded after Jerry's death by the Dead, it's one of my favorite versions.
We often use it as dialog amongst us in both good and bad times

The Dead did a lot of great stuff in '03. I remember a great acoustic Blackbird at Red Rocks. Also they did Reuben and Cherise. I remember Joan singing Days Between. That wasn't particularly great but at least they were trying new things that year. '04, on the other hand, didn't really seem to inspire but I did have a great time at the Bonnaroo show that year.

I'd rather be in some dark hollow where the sun don't ever shine Then to be in some big city, in a small room, with a girl on my mind
Well blow your whistle freight train take me far on down the track Well I'm going away, I'm leaving today I'm goin', but I ain't comin' back.

yeah that Bonnaroo show was sick. Wasn't it rainy and miserable? The dead ripped anyway.
I remember waiting to see Primus in the rain b/c they were going to be playing on a different stage during the dead's 1st set. Somebody announced due to rain they were going to be delayed and said "primussucks, go see the dead" The dead killed and then Primus tore it up later that night long after the dead had finished. That was a good Saturday.
