Rye Grow - Filter Essential?

My rye grow failed thus far (7 days after inoculation) due to nothing happening, meaning no colonization at all or growth. I assume the jars were either a) too hot or b) failed because of no filter.
I didn't have any tyvek or know where to get it at the time, thus not using it. Could this have really made the difference in my failure? There was ZERO germination.
Thanks!

Chill, if they aren't contamed, leave them for at least a week longer.
Some strains are slow germinators.
The spore may have been dead, maybe not.

so there is no filter at all on your jars? huge mistake! which gets me wondering, if its been 7 days and you havent seen any "contams" what method are you using for co2 exchange?
if you have the lid and band on with no holes in the lid thats the reason your jars arent colonizing.

Two days ago. Go to your local UPS store and ask for a tyvek envelope. Then wipe it down with alcohol real well, and put it on over a lid with a half inch hole in it... Under the lid band. Maybe you'll get lucky and get some myc out of the deal.
