I don't get this quote

From Isaac Asimov's Book of facts: published in 1980:
"If the population of the Earth were to continue to increase at the present rate indefinitely, by 3530 A.D. the total mass of human flesh and blood would equal the mass of the earth. By 6826 A.D. the total mass of human flesh and and blood would equal the mass of the known universe."
This is astounding to me because I've also heard the universe is so large it would take 20 years going the speed of light just to get to the next galaxy, I mean these are huge statistics. How could this be possible?

Just because he has the same first name as Sir Isaac Newton does not mean he invented gravity.

Human growth is exponential. Small numbers get really big, really fast. Yes, even that large. Haven't you ever sat around with a calculator, bored in class just pressing the '=' button watching the number err out your calculator?

For that one fraction of a second, you were open to options you'd never considered. That's the exploration that awaits you...not mapping stars and studying nebulae... but charting the unknowable possibilities of existence. The simple fact is that in a few years, there just won't be enough food to feed all those people, so the population would not be able to increase at that same rate. Famine and wars have always been the most significant factors in reducing population, followed closely by widespread epidemics.
But speaking purely from a empirical viewpoint, exponential growth without considering practical limits would lead to such astronomical figures. Fortunately, that's not really something we need to be concerned with.

The universe is pretty empty for it's size. Very little mass

Total bullshit. How did they get this number when you have to consider the mass of all the planets, stars, asteroids, comets, and black holes which have multiple solar masses?
There's no way human flesh and blood would ever equal all of that.

True,, though they think there's the dark matter that we don't understand yet,, that's still pretty much a theory tho i think,,, not sure..
I was just putting the "20 years" thing straight,,

I just saw a cool BBC documentary about absolute zero yesterday. There was an experiment done where light was directed through a matter with nearly zero thermal energy (meaning just few millidegrees over absolute zero). And what happened was that the speed of light slowed down to speed achievable with bicycle. And that moment when it left the matter it regained its speed and burst right forward with unimaginable speed. So for a split of second you really was able to see the actual light speeding. It was pretty neat.

Did they mention how they were able to bring the matter down to near zero temperature?

That essentially claims to disprove relativity, doesnt it?
I wouldnt be surprised if they didnt give the full story behind what was happening.
