how secret? You don't see too many books with multiple gymnopilus species with pics (I can see the liquiritiae above penetrans). Sweet, and westii. Dammit GG.

Is it Color Atlas of Basidiomyces by Meinhard Moser and Walter Julich?

They labeled Psilocybe cubensis the nickname "Giggle Mushroom". I am not sure where they got that one.
I messaged the author of the Copelandia westii photograph asking him where that collection was found. Have not heard back from him yet. It is the same guy who wrote the book "Shrooms".

One time this Asian woman at the check in at the airport asked me if the mushrooms I was carrying on the plane were "Giggle mushrooms" or something to that effect. I got confused at first, and then realized what she was asking me.

Update on the C. westii photograph:
Brian Akers
Said this about the location: "I took that shot in Alachua county, about 10 miles north of Gainesville."
And said this about the identification: "My species identification of the mushroom in that picture -- definitely a Copelandia -- is a "soft" one, made without rigorous microscopic comparison."
So with that we can understand the identification as a "soft" one.

I guess the book was kept secret because the author didn't bother to fully ID all the mushrooms in it.

lol
He told me that Murrill originally identified C. westii in the same exact location. Also noted that Murrill made hundreds of deposits at the herbarium at the University of Florida in Gainesville.. I think that Dr. James Kimbrough has headed their Mycology Department and/or Herbarium for at least a couple decades now. And it is the only "herbarium" that I have ever really heard of in the state of Florida.
Brian only contributed a few photographs to the book. When I saw the mushrooms labeled as Copelandia westii I knew immediately that I would have to make a inquiry on the matter. From the reply that he made to my questions it seemed like I was the first one to catch him in the act. after he said it was a "soft one" he tried to back it up with this: "But it does match the description on macro features, at least, and come from the same locale approximately.".
I also threw in a question about Copelandia chlorocystis and he said: "I'm sorry to say I don't know.". Then he added that all "Copelandia" species grow from dung, and the first thing I thought was he might be wrong about that. So I looked through some of Mushroom Johns information for some reason suspecting that Copelandia bispora might only grow in lawns, but Mj's info claimed that it grew from dung. His info also mentioned that one species of Hawaiian mushrooms Panaeolus goossensiae Beeli does not grow from dung. And I am unsure if Pan. goossensiae was ever placed into the genus Copelandia. But Brian may not even know that the classification of the genus Copelandia was recently diverted back to the genus of Panaeolus for some complicated taxonomic reasons.
I like Brian though. He gave me a well written reply.
GG
Oh and I bet there is not a single mushroom identification book on the planet that does not have at least one mistake or "soft one" in it.

Strange enough there is a illustration on one of the first few pages of the book "Distribution Range for Mushrooms of the Southeastern United States", and it looks a little bit broad to me. What do you think?

I hardly consider parts of Iowa and Illinois Kentucky and Virginia parts of the southeastern United States.

Oh and a correction to something I typed above:
"Shroom: A Cultural History of the Magic Mushroom" was actually written by Andy Letcher.

Well I would call the ones in your photograph "Lemon Yellow Lepiota's", most likely Leucocoprinus birnbaumii or a similar species of Leucocoprinus. Poisonous. Some references say they are potentially fatal if consumed.

yzz kinda look like you're classic flower pot lepiota, those have a more greenish hue to em, but non the less still play with the same characteristics.
