He does not use a humidifier or ultrasonic or anything correct? I just purchased 2 4-teir greenhouses and I was just planning on cutting slits in the greenhouse for FAE but I was starting to worry about keeping 100% humidity.
Any ideas or should my humidity be fine?
Thanks.

I believe RR suggests using a humidifier INSIDE the greenhouse, whereas some other people, including myself, use an externel setup with hoses running to the greenhouse.

I just bought a 4-tier greenhouse also, perhaps the same one? Got mine on ebay.
Still unsure of how I will maintain humidity with FAE, haven't even read up on inexpensive/fairly easy procedures yet. I'm curious to hear what you will choose to do, could use some advice.

I went to Target, got myself a Vicks coolmist, drilled 1 hole in the lid just big enough to fit a garden hose (I believe its 5/8'') And then ran the hose to the greenhouse. Works perfect. Provides constant 90-95% rH and provides constant FAE. I also cut a couple small slits in the opposite wall of the greenhouse to provide more fresh air.
Entire greenhouse with setup costs me about 75$. 45 for the greenhouse, 30 for the coolmist, garden hose, and duct tape

Hello h4x, for that I remember Roger suggests to use the ultrasonic humidifier INTO the greenhouse. He uses it 2-3 minutes on and 2-3 minutes off or something like this, depending the need of the blocks (primordia formation, fruitbodies development and so on). He suggests also to put some tray with perlite to the bottom of the greenhouse, in this way the excess water will finish there and recirculate in the air. For what i know he doen't use the heater under the perlite. He cuts slids on the side of the greenhouse to prevent high levels of CO2.
Roger correct me if i wrong!

pumping it into the greenhouse shortens the life of the humidifier greatly from what ive read. freesporeprints has some pretty good suggestions and thats what i would do if i had a greenhouse. dont make things more complicated than they have to be.

Ive read this as well, but it just isnt true as long as you maintain your equipment. When I was still growing I ran mine 24/7 for nearly 6 months consecutive.
Yes, if you just plug in and forget and only fill it up with water when it gets low, you will get this orange slim buildup and that will cause the coolmist to go dead on you.
I simply emptied out all the water every 2-4 weeks and washed it out with piping hot water and removed all the slime and it still works as good as new

The only problem with the internal setup is you then have to deal with a timer, and then you also have some sort of catcher to catch the excess moisture. It takes a little more time to setup the external setup, but in the longrun, it seems to be easiest. Atleast for me

I've posted extensively on greenhouse setups and humidification. It's all right there in the search. RR

Your Cool Mist will shit out in a few months tops, maybe weeks even.
Static pressure will kill your mister.
Try the same tek with an ultra, works as well, no static pressure to kill your unit.

Maybe you missed the part where I mentioned I had been running this 24/7 for 6 months consecutively.
It runs fine, you just need to keep it clean and keep slime from building up.

i used a tek that called for buying a plastic elbow from the gutter section at home depot. cut the corners to make slits, and attached to the filter side of the cool mist. then sat the cool mist inside the greenhouse, and cut a hole in the cover of the greenhouse, pulled the elbow through and duct taped. at first i didn't think the cool mist could pull in enough air but i sparked a lighter right near the elbow vent and flame was sucked in immediately. also i found out that the Rh was near 100% when leaving the cool mist running for most of the day. i would even have to open the greenhouse and fan to lower Rh at times.
