My sister was born premature about three years ago. And my mom was hospitalized as well.
The bill ended up being in the 3 million range. Insurance covered about a fifth of that and federal tax helped the rest. My parents don't owe a penny.

It's more like 25%. However, the entitlement/income redistribution programs are more than %50 of the federal budget.

I can only think with disgust at the amount of my income that would be taxed away from me if we had universal health care in the U.S. Take a look at your Social Security taxes, local taxes, state taxes, federal taxes, sales tax, and "hidden taxes" (taxes on gasoline for example), etc.. As of now the average American worker has at least 35% of his income taken away from him by various governmental agencies. If we had universal health care how much would it be? 50%? 60%?
No thanks.

people that talk about wanting universal health care need to get jobs of their own and actually see what's available for them out there.
I mean shit, people talk about our health care system like it's complete shit. There's nothing wrong with our health care system except for the insurance companies but that's not room to let government take control. If anything, that'll make everything way worse.
I mean under the HMO system we've got going, it's basically like sociallized medicine where the insurance agency tells you which doctor to goto. If you're an individual that takes care of themself why should you need to dish out more money in taxes for someone else's health care? Not trying to sound selfish, but seriously. It's one thing to do it on a private level with the insurance companies but on a national level with everyone would be outrageous!! RON PAUL FOR PRESIDENT hehe

As a nation you take care of your own. Those who are worse off are presented with opportunity, through help by all of the community, mediated by the government.
If you live in a tiny village you take care of each other, a big nation shouldn't be any different.
The alternative is, well, barbarism. "every man for himself" is entirely selfish if it means not helping those in need when you got it good.
Perhaps America needs a big catastrophy to get people together again, to be united as one people. It worked for the Dutch during and after World War Two. Solidarity.

Lets hope Obama's new candidate smell doesn't wear off before hes able to secure his spot on the ballot. And that Mayor Moneypants Bloomberg doesn't decided in the next 4 days he wants to play El Presidente.

90% of all posts are. Americans are the minority in this, most of the first world has this kind of health care system.

You elect a government to help run the country. This fits their job description.

You elect a government to enforce the rule of law and to protect your rights from others. Our Constitution says nothing about health care.

The bible said nothing about Jesus so they wrote the New Testament.
The Constitution doesn't say a thing about building bridges and roads either, should we ask them to stop that?

I think the biggest problem with the current healthcare system isn't that we don't have enough people covered.. it's WHATS covered.
I'm not a big fan of Michael Moore, but his last movie did bring up one good point... the insurance companies have millions of dollars to spend in attorneys that will try to dick you out of what you pay for... by calling a procedure "EXPERIMENTAL" or by fighting against payment on something just long enough for the patient to die and stop putting up a fight.
These aren't cases of lazy people wanted to suck up tax dollars.. these are cases of people PAYING into the system fair and square and getting shafted on what they're paying for just because the insurance company needs to make more money.
At least add some regulations that say if a doctor SAYS YOU NEED A PROCEDURE that the insurance company CAN'T DENY IT. That's a start at least.

With these "social programs" the government forcefully takes your money and gives it to other people or enrolls you in certain programs and you have no choice in the matter. You may not be bothered by having 50% of the fruits of your labor taken away from you but I am.

Admittedly, the insurance companies have done some shady things. When they do shady things they deserve to get sued. That doesn't mean we should have universal health care coverage though.
