Yeah you can just use fine verm as a filter. Or no verm just micropore tape. Or you can use both like I do. I take off the tape once the mycelium starts growing to give it a head start.

For grain jars, I prefer synthetic filter disks, but I don't inoculate grain jars with syringes anyway. If you do, micropore tape works. I suggest putting a piece of tape on both the inside and outside of the lid, and then after syringe inoculation, place a third piece of tape over the damaged tape.
I've made quite a few pf and rye grain jars this way to test the tek, and I really wish I had included it on the DVD. It will be on the next one for sure. It really does make the dry verm barrier obsolete. RR

Micro-pore works great! My foaf experimented with it before switching.
He took 8 contamed jars, and put them into a small bin with 4 freshly PCd rye jars, with 2 holes punched through the lids and micro-pore tape over the holes, in one 12-pack holder, tightly spaced in a slightly larger bin with a lid, and put it out in the garage during 60-80 degree days, with wild swings in temp.
After 30 days of these 4 virgin jars being in the closest corners with 8 contamed jars breathing in and out at with the temp, none of the fresh jars contamed!
