Stiff neck (always!)

I've had this problem for awhile...
When i stretch my neck (ear to the shoulder + hold, then change sides), it hurts alot. My neck seems to be in constant knots.
Massage, at least from my girlfriend who has weak hands, does not seem to help...
Im wondering if there are stretches i should be doing which will help me loosen up, or maybe something like *deep heat* cream?..
(i should mention, i had a severe bike accident 6 years ago, where i fell nearly 20 feet vertically unto my head, onto a fire road, and nearly died..) - although ive only noticed the pain for the last year or so..
Considering trying yoga for other reasons, hoping that will help.

I believe yoga will help you immensely.
Check out this book called "Light on Yoga" by B. K. S. Iyengar. It lists all of the different asana's, gives courses and cycles of asanas, and tells which asana's are good for certain things (back injury, neck injury, better digestion, better breathing, better speach, etc)
I hope you find what you're seeking and feel relief soon

I'm not real experienced in yoga, but from what I understand trying to correct an injury as delicate as this without a yoga instructor as a guide could be dangerous.
I have the "Light on Yoga" book too, and would also recommend it. Packed full of information, well worth the price.

Going to an MD will probably not lead to a "cure," but might get you a prescription for painkillers.
IME, the most effective means of resolving chronic or acute musculoskeletal issues is a combination of professional deep-tissue massage and chiropractic adjustments.

Yeah, but then he could sell the painkillers to some local pill addicts and buy psychedelics. For the problem I would recommend taking a gram of ginger root twice a day. In 2 to 3 months of that the problem will correct itself. I had this same problem and got the treatment from an Andrew Weil book. It worked great due to the gentle anti inflammatory effects of the ginger.

Don't do this without a doc's advice: I've got a neck traction device that hangs over the top of a door that pulls my head/neck straight up with about 18lbs. Helps a great deal! Check Ebay for similar devices that use inflating airbags to lift your neck and head. A doctor prescribed mine for me because of a bone spur that was rubbing on a nerve.
