Wierd police experience

So tonight, on my way home from work, I'm turning onto the highway and I had to wait for a car to go past before I could turn right. Well, turns out this car is a police cruiser, but he's doing a reasonably quick speed, so I disregard him entirely. He's probably about a mile in front of me when he pulls over and turns on his cherries and starts shining his spotlight all around.
I slowed down because I couldn't figure out what the fuck to do, seeing that no other cars were around and there wasn't a soul in sight. I thought he wanted me. I drove up about 100 yards in front of him and pulled over, waiting for him to come up behind me if I was really the person he wanted. He just sat there, so I put on my turn signal and pulled out, and he just sat there for as long as I could see him.
It's possible that he saw my license plate, but I don't recall driving any faster than 65 in a 55 behind him quite a ways, and he was obviously going quite a bit faster than me.
There was a fatal wreck in the location he pulled over less than 3 weeks ago, so that could have something to do with it, but I don't think so.
This was just a strange experience and I'm still kinda paranoid that a cop will show up at my house for some reason, because it's happened before.
I'm a good guy, why do they try to ruin my life?

Umm, they usually stop on the highway with their lights right before they get ready to do a speed trap. To make sure no one runs into them while they do last minute whatever they are doing to set up for it.
Seen this action before many times.

sounds like he was just hiding out waiting for someone comes speeding by. if there was a fatal accident then maybe it's a common place for speeding and driving stupid

that sounds possible, but I'm still a little paranoid that a cop is just gonna show up at my door. I've had it happen before, they aren't quite capable of getting you right there, but they have your license plate number and they'll show up at your house ready to arrest you.
some big, wet, flappin', douchebags these cops are.
