straw and low potency

a couple of friends just took about 35 grams wet of cambodians grown on straw mixed with hpoo. i would say the straw/poo ratio was about 75% staw 25% poo. the spawn was about 7 broken up BRF cakes. it yeilded about 500 g wet on first flush from a mono tub. they are not very potent at all. they say body buzz at best. any ideas why? the straw was the straw you buy at craft stores like micheals. it is very white, with a slight yellow glow. the only thing i can think of is the straw is not very good for growing. i searched the forums and came across differing opinions on straw alone, but i mixed with poo so i would of thought i there would be better potency. any advice/suggestions would be appreciated.

First question i would ask was did you use spores??
Then i would question your straw/poo
Other than that i dont have experience in those substrates, but multispore is a possibility.

yea i agree i haven't even fruited any of my spawned stuff but the colonization is amazing so i can only imagine the fruiting.
just my 2 cents katfish

veda: a little confused about the spore question. i used spores to inoculate brf cakes. they were off a print i made from potent shrooms. what is multispore? molasses: where did you get yur straw?

Multispore inoculation is when you use lots of spores, such as what you did. That's the luck of the draw growing from spores. Sometimes you get good genetics and sometimes you don't. It had nothing to do with using straw and manure.
35 fresh grams should be enough for one person to enjoy. If more than one person split the 35 grams, it's no wonder they didn't get much. RR

35 grams wet is roughly 3.5g's dry, always works out like that when I take a wet weight and then dry...
Like RR said the bulk product isn't what determines the over all potency of a mushrooms, it's the substrain that dominates and has fruiting abilities.... I use to experience low potency in some grows done from MS to brf/rye flour cakes and even rye, since I've begun using coffee in my soak water and bulk subs Ive never had a complaint about them other then people asking me when reality should return.... You know they're good when it only takes a gram
IMO, I'm fairly certain it's been discussed that a more diverse range of nutrients during initial germination plays a great role in the health of the mycelium as well as the potency, the slower more rhizomorph growth has always produced more potent mushrooms then fast linear growth.
Everything I just said is a full blown out lie

That is very true, that is my my prefered dosage between 10 grams and 20 grams fresh.
I have had 10 gram doses that were incredibly potent, i wish i had cloned those ones.
And i have had 25 gram doses that were less potent than the 10 gram.
all down to genetics.
