1lb of colonized hpoo and FC probs.
    #7829448 - 01/03/08 08:30 PM (16 years, 29 days ago)

Man this is my first time using hpoo. i have searched and read a lot but this is kind of a invididual situation. I got some from one of our sponsers. I mixed a pint of r44 witha pound of hpoo and the colonization time is amazing, it seems the myc just eats the stuff up. I don't know exactly what I am gonna do with it once it is done. I have it colonizing in a ziplock bag witha few holes poed in it and it is inside my TiT.

I am thinking of just pouring it in a baking pan and throwing it in my FC

PROBLEM WITH FC

ok so I had a severe trich problem with my FC, which is pretty large, 66 qts. I only have a pound of fresh perlite avaliable, so I was wondering since the perlite will only cover the bottom about a 1/4 inch could i just put a few standing cups of water or another pan of water to keep the humidity up?

I need to do something soon because I made a mini casing before i made the ziplock of hpoo and pesa WBS and lots of myc is showing on the top. I am leaving it in the TiT for now, should I wait until it is totally colonized on the top and then case and place in the FC? or is it even necessary to case hpoo?

thanks for the help

Can't you just get a smaller tub to use as a FC?

I would be more concerned with your trich problem. mould should not grow in your fruitng chamber.

What did it grow one exactly, for mould or bacteria to grow it needs something to consume.

well I have had one cake and two casings get fucked by trich, I just cleaned the entire inside and lid with isoproypl alcohol, I poured the pound of perlite in there and it actually covered the bottom. I poured a few more cups of distilled water after I soaked the perlite. I threw a themr/hydro meter in there its at 64F and 80 RH. I don't anticipate any trich probs and will be putting my mini hpoo PESA casing in there tommorow or tonight depending if it reaches 90 RH or not. i took a small ziplock tupperware and put a few spoon scoops of a pint of WBS PESA off the top of the jar and resealed it and put it back in the TiT. I coverd the wbs with hpoo from a shroomery sponser and I have myc comming out the top ion like 10 places.

Is casing totally necsarry for hpoo, i have rad that its not but I think I will do late casing on this one.

When doing late casing. I am confused, do i leave it incubating until it is fully colonized on top? then case, or what?

thanx
kF

For your cake getting hit by trich, it was probably already infected by trich prior to birthing and showed itself on birthing. Remember mould mycelium is white, until it sporolates.

As for the casing, im unsure on advice, i would say that maybe it was not pasturized or sterilised properly ( for the life of me cant remember if the casing should be pasturized or sterilized)

Standing water is not a good thing in your fruiting chamber, for perlite, soak well in a strainer with running water then let excess drain off. The perlite will hold the water, there doesnt need to be any extra.

There is definatly not enough, you want between 3-5 inches of perlite. If you dont have many cakes/casings then a smaller container to acheive atleast 2 inches may provie enough RH for the casing.

With enough perlite you should acheive 95% in a short time. I would try a smaller tub.

Also do you have holes drilled in all 6 sides, this can help airflow allowing more water to evaporate into the air inside (keep the holes small, 1/4 inch in size) look up shotgun fruiting chamber.

After a contamination the FC can be cleaned out using warm soapy water, i use a little bleach when i feel everything needs cleaned out just to be safe, but i hear RR many times stating that soapy warm water is fine.

I have succesfully cleaned perlite by putting it in a colander and spraying bleach ontop and letting it soak for 30 mintues the rinses ti very well under running water. Again the bleach is overkill.

Fruiting chambers dont need to be sterile, but it doesnt hurt to be clean, fully colinised subsrate with healthy myc is resistant to contams.
