trouble with TiT incubator

I have finally constructed a Tub in Tub incubator. I have a 18 gallon tub with a tub with a aquarium heater I got from wal mart turned all the way up. The tub that I have all my jars, agar plates and a ziplock mycobag in is now running at 80.2 F. The temp in the room now is 72.1 with the shitty dorm heater running. IT was a little warmer in my room eariler in the week and the TiT ran at 83.5 F which I though was perfect since the live mycelium produces around 2 to 3 degrees F or so I have read in my research. Now it has gotten colder and I have it only running at 80.2 degrees. This is with a towel over the jars and stuff inside the tub.
I don't know if I should use antoher towel to create more heat or get two submersible heaters and get it exactly right at 84F. Does anyone have any insight on using TiTs and keeping the tempature optimum?
I know the extra heat is making a big difference because my agar plate of amazon is growing more and more by the day. I hope to cut the colonization of my jars by half.
thanks guys and gals katfish

Unless use a thermostat to switch the heating on and off for the TIT incubator then its going to be impossible to keep the temps steady.
I would recomend no more than 81F.
your temp fluctiations arnt too great and i wouldnt worry about it, 3-4 degrees swing is not going to have a noticable effect on colinisation.

81F is the max i go to, here is something RR said not to long ago
Quote:
Wild swings in temperature cause air exchanges between the jars and the outside. If the changes are rapid, they can easily be too much for the filtering material, especially if only dry verm is used. I don't recommend incubators, but find a nice room that holds at least to within five degrees or so. 75F to 81F is ideal. Above that, the returns are not worth the increased rate of contamination that will be experienced. RR

well RR is god as far as I am concerned, he is even more knowledgable than Hippie. Right now the TiT is at 79.2F so I am almost to optimum temp.
thanks for all your help!

Thats good enough, a few degrees here and there is not going to make much of a difference, and after all patience is key. good things come to those who wait.
