Just to echo the above posters, but this is always na interesting area - I lurk frequently, and always find myself here.

On the topic of money mattering; to me money is freedom. With it I an do what I want, when I want. To get it I lose freedom, as I have to spend time doing shit I don't want to do.

If I can buy cheaply, I will do, equally if I can find a solid investment, all it is doing is giving me more free time. I also own nearly everything I want to now too, which means I can focus on getting rid of things I don't want, and improving those things I have, and basically just enjoying my life - I am not at a stage there is nothing I really want, that I don't have.

Granted I can't just walk out of the door and buy a 46" TV and take a 3 week holiday, but I want for nothing. This rocks.

Lack of monetary power is holding me back at the moment, but unlimited disposable income is soon to come. Money will be abolished in the near future. Why not have some fun until then? How about WINNING THE LOTTERY?

Well as I see it. The first thing people need to do is stop paying insane amounts of interest to 3rd parties for things you want not need. Your giving away your future in interest payments!

I cut up all my cards 7 years ago. Got rid of the crazy "I have to have 200 pair of shoes wife" and researched and bought a very nice 3 bedroom home in foreclosure for 14k.

The only bills I now have are utility bills each month (saving towards solar array) and property taxes. ($702 a year) No credit card bills, no mortgage, and no stress! woot woot!

You can't change your situation without trying and some sacrifice. I ate simple and went without alot of wants to get the previous stupidity in life payed off. Now when I purchase something. It is done in cash because I saved for it.

Anyone who sets their mind to it will succeed. You just have to tune out the materialisticaly driven psychos (friends and family) until you have reached your goal!

I agree with previous posts, money equals freedom in our society. Yes unfortunate, but you can win at the game and be a free person! Freedom! Smart investments and keeping your over head low,i think still trying to figure it out. Thanks for the forum.

Sorry it took so long to respond to your question. I have not been on lately. I am up North  You can find homes across the country for those prices if you do your homework and scour the mls listings and craigslist listings. Even call your County Clerk and ask about foreclosure listings or Tax sales. Take care!

Life insurance as an investment vehicle [Re: geokills]
    #19130767 - 11/13/13 11:12 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

This was new to me but figured we'd give it a go.

It's been called bank on yourself, infinite banking etc. those names tend to turn me off but I think the premise is sound.

Most people invest the minimum amount in life insurance if at all, but when you look at it and have it set up as an investment vehicle it makes more sense.

If you're putting money into a 401k or RRSP'S then you're gambling on the stock market, and when you go to take your money out you don't know what the taxes will be like.
Two downsides to avoid.

Insurance is a different type of money. You sign a contract and they have to guarantee your death benefit. They make sure it goes up, and compounds on its way.

It has to be set up correctly through a mutual insurance company
Instead pay your premiums monthly which adds to your equity and death benefit.
Through a mutual insurance company, a dividend is paid which contributes to both your equity and death benefit.
Then you can loan against your policy to make major purchases and essentially you're paying the interest back to your fund/policy rather than the bank.
And when you wish to retire, you loan against your equity for living expenses (so its not taxable income) and let your death benefit pay it back. Golden.

It's a long term strategy to be sure. But it makes more sense to me than gambling on stocks and getting in bed with the government through RRSP's.

Anyone familiar with this? Am I understanding it right? Did I miss key points?

First I've heard of it. Reminds me of what I had read of life insurance policies being structured by financial managers to keep their clients' wealth from the estate tax.

interesting,i am lucky to get a new financial-start,regaring credibility after nearly 10 years of deep debt and no credibility at all! the road has been long with awful litttle money and freedom generally, because of this.

i messed up my liquidity when i turned 23 (now 33years old),partying 24/7 for coouple of years, basically just doing the opposite of what can generate money, smart right?

Anyway,in 2016 my new start begins, being some years older and understanding more of the world and the mess around us,i need to invest smart in my new finacial freedom, tired of basically not having money to nothing else than living and food..
I will register and start my own company,im not slaving for another mans empire anymore. But i want more, got to invest in something more than a company. hope this thread goes on with more people so i can learn a thing or two,or even three maybe.

Have been thinking investments in the cannabis industry that is growing, and will grow even more, before the global cannabis-bubble bursts over the entire planet,in a positiv way:bigblunt:

what ya think?

last 6 months i have started to look into the finacial world. ihave a question on a visa credit card. I belive in one card for a safety backup kind of. Visa says:

'Using credit cards is your payment more secure compared with the use of debit cards (debit card) where the money is deducted directly from the account. Invoice will receive by email unless otherwise agreed.

You will receive an invoice from Visa-Credits very beginning of each month maturity will be the 20. You can choose whether you want to pay the entire amount or only paying the minimum amount (about 40 usd) until you have more to spare. More information on payment can be found by clicking on the link with payment information further down the page'.

This a offering to have wider finaciel freedom in a way,for just paying the 40 bucks a month? say the creditt is about 14000usd a year, and people pay about 130 usd a month a lives on the card entirely? this how not to use it right? got to be high interest on this. How do you use your card?
card for me will be visa and mastercard,nation-vise.

Only spend as much as you can afford to spend.  Pick a credit card that has a good reward program (Citi DoubleCash is one of the best available in the US presently), put all of your purchases on your card to accrue the rewards, and make sure to pay off your card's balance each and every month so that you don't pay interest on your purchases.

If you need to use additional credit (i.e. make purchases you can't afford to pay off immediately), you should generally only do this in an emergency and try to find a card that offers a 0% introductory rate for at least several months, or a 0% introductory rate on a balance transfer to your existing card, in the hope that you won't have to accrue interest on your debt before you can pay it off.

Credit card interest rates are generally high and thus credit card debt is not desirable, but because many credit cards offer rewards and all credit cards have a "grace period" (typically one month) where no interest is due, you can use them to accrue rewards and pay them off during the grace period to avoid paying any interest.  Thus, an effective discount on all of your purchases, when used correctly.
