That's why I don't over indulge in psychosis causing drugs. Chances are you won't get psychosis any other way than if you're predisposed to it.

I'm worried I don't get it. If I'm old and not crazy that sounds pretty fucking lame to me.

Be careful and don't ever take your mental health for granted.
I've been diagnosed with schizophrenia, it's not always bad, i hardly ever have any paranoia, no delusions that i know of, doing fairly well but it can still suck. I mean REALLY suck..... crushing depression, thought disorders, voices, no sleep.
I took mushrooms when about 16, i don't think it caused my schizophrenia but it may have triggered it or made it worse.
My psychologist said I've got good insight into my problems with it so I'm a mostly "normal", little bit "quirky". it's cool though, being completely normal seems pretty boring to me sometimes (sometimes the voices i hear are funny)

Do you still take psychedelics? I like your positive view though

i was scared of it before i started doing psychedelics around age 16, but i'm 19 now and i've done pretty decent amounts continuously since then. i've been in pretty scary and deep mental spaces before, and i made it out. no doubt it can still hit me (prime schizophrenia onset periods are 18-25) but i've had no previous family history of it and all those doses haven't really affected my mental health.
but anyway, no point fearing it, if it happens it happens, no way to prevent it. so live in the moment

And what exactly are you doing on a mushroom forum if you're blaming mushrooms for worsening your mental disorders? (That were probably made worse by the fact someone TOLD you you had it)

What?
I'm not blaming them at all.
It could have been made worse from weed, shrooms especially drinking allot., but I'm a responsible person and i don't blame any of these substances, i choose to take them.
I've not taken mushrooms since about 2 years ago maybe, can't get a hold of any, can't grow any right now, i don't think I'd take them again for the sake of my mental health, plus I'm kinda trippin most of the time anyway

No way. Mushrooms can certainly trigger psychosis in individuals who were already predisposed to it. So could a car crash, a break up, a case of the flu. But you're not putting yourself at risk for a psychotic break years down the line by tripping now. If anything, you're making it less likely, by stretching your mental muscles. You're working out your kinks.

I really like what ramzablues and noviseer had to say. I'd also like to suggest that as we age, and particularly if we make it to old age, it is natural for your brain to slow down and get hit with a touch of dimensia. It doesn't happen to everyone, but for most people who live to see many years, their minds will slow and their ability to understand and process information will diminish. The extent to which that happens is highly variable... and I also believe that an active mind will be a healthier mind. Keep yourself busy and thoughtful, and that should help keep your mind strong. Interestingly, I've encountered reports that people who retire early, die early - and I think that plays directly into my thesis about keeping your mind active.
Be well, and as ramza said, live in this moment - for it is the one that matters most!

How is saying "it may have triggered it or made it worse" not in some aspect blaming mushrooms? And I wasn't trying to be a dick, just honestly curious what would lead you to seek out a community of mushroom enthusiasts if you seemed to have a negative experience using them.
Geokills hit it on the head though. Just like a more active body later in life helps maintain a healthy body, the same can be said for the mind, both of which will degrade at a natural pattern if preventative measures aren't taken.

I am 48 now and started using entheogens at 14 and would say that am still relatively sane. I believe that family history and trauma have a much larger baring on mental health in later years than early drug use. There are some studies coming out of the UK saying entheogen use leads to psychosis but from what I have read of them they totally fail to take into account that most people suffering from mental illness try and self medicate sometimes for years before seeking or finding professional help for thire illness. Most of these follow this logic 60% of people with psychotic disorders say they smoked pot there for pot causes psychosis ,,thats not good logic or good science. If a underlying condition exists shrooms or LSD or pot may well trigger a episode but that is not the same as causing the illness. There are drugs that do damage to the brain that may very well lead to long term mental problems, drugs like amphetamines and thire related compounds this includes MDMA so I would never advocate thire long term use. Use with moderation and if you find yourself thinking you need a drug remember thats a very bad sign, addiction is a mind killer no matter what the substance,,its your mind and your body treat it with respect and it will last a lifetime

i was pretty worried about it. seems like i came close for awhile there. since i'm in my mid twenties i figure i'm safe though. another year or two and its pretty much certain the delusions of the past will never overtake me.

dude, there's no denying that psychedelics can help bring about schizophrenia and other mental disorders at an earlier age, even sometimes make them more severe. but that is of course if you have the predisposition to the disorder.
Someone with impending schizophrenia gets heavily affected by early psychedelic use, just look at what happened to Syd Barret. I definitely think his psychedelic use had a strong hand in the severity of his speculated schizophrenia (granted he probably did enough acid to kill a baby horse).
anyway, my point being is mushrooms acid, and other psychedelics, can have negative effects (as far as mental health goes), and that should not simply be put off.

I personally don't believe many serious mental disorders are permanent, properly diagnosed or irreversible, but that's a discussion for a whole other time and place, as I could go on about that forever.

Haha that's only cause you came down.
For a while recently I was worried about going schizo. My grandfather had it pretty severe, and I'm 18, and have been using mushrooms and acid for a few years now. Now I think I may have been overreacting (I thought I heard voices at night, but really I think that happens to most people as they start to fall asleep). And I love drugs too much to quit now

I have a few art friends, fine painters... they hear music all the time... just because your mind is different doesn't mean you have issues, only if it is bad that you have issues.
