Making suitable spawn bags
    #7827701 - 01/03/08 02:28 PM (16 years, 29 days ago)

Well I have 2 large 'baggies' that I think would be a little less than peperfect to use as spawn bags.

They are about 15x25cm and have a sealer at the top. They are just like bbig versions of the bags that you buy, erm, 'medicine' in.

Now, obviously I'm going to be needing to put something on them for air exchange. I have loads of little tubs that have those foam filter tape things on them, which work for colonising the tubs. I'm thinking of making some slits in the bag and taping those on. They're about 6.5 cm each so I'll probably put about 3 or 4 of them on there. Obviously I would need to seal them on pretty well.

Can anyone advise me the best ways of sealing them? Would standard masking tape be efficient? It would have to withstand a pressure cooker of course.

Also would the sealer on the top of the bag be effecient for use as a sspawn bag? Would I need to invest in one of those sealing things that you see on mail-order ads?

Ziplock bags can't be PC'd. Buy gusseted, filter patch bags. They're cheaper if you buy them by the hundred.
