Is there something about the fundamentals you like? Lots of stocks boom and then fall.
I'm waiting for a better entry into the market. I'm hoping stocks crash...just not the ones I already own.

Fear & Greed down in the "extreme fear" zone today. We busted through the 200 day EMA on the S&P yestesrday, and nearly tagged the 200 day SMA. Probably going to need to chew around this level a little bit, but damned that I missed a great intraday move on TSLA today. Had been watching it and had my alert pop up on the initial 15 minute move this morning, but as I had plans away from my desk, I opted not to take the trade. Of course, that's the day the issue finishes up +6%, which with an options trade would have been quite a beautiful ride.
ORIC, long since exited, seems to be finding some footing after some really high volume dumping. I'm not really itching to get back in there, despite their impending catalysts on drug studies. The market is just a little too fragile right now and that was a great trade, it didn't quite hit the full target I was seeking, but it made it half way, and that's better than a lot of things!
Honestly, kind of hard to be doing too much here. Market is short-term oversold, but it's also suffered quite a bit of technical damage. Essentially at this point, I'm relegated to looking for very short term reversion trades after a steep downdraft. Today was one of those days that presented such opportunities, but I missed it. Could be some follow through on the back half of the week, but keep your expectations in check because there's quite a bit of regret overhead that will likely be selling into strength via the "I want my money back" trade.
Chop and slop. I'd have to believe we are going to build some support around current levels, but a dip down to S&P 4K isn't out of the question either. In any event, it's likely to be bumpy and not very pleasant for the near term. Just keep in mind, it's typically during the workthrough of these tumultuous periods that one finds the beginnings of sweet success. In the meanwhile, don't lose your ass(ets).

I bought stocks on Oct 5 to see most dip and then ride up on Oct 6. Tom Lee was right...Hot Labor report and then intraday reversal. I think the violent rally will continue. I'm thinking to buy more FTNT and AMD. I bought some Rivian after the 20% dip. Then it dipped 5% more, but came back 4.5%. Thoughts on Rivian? Costly, but beautiful truck and Tesla keeps slashing prices making competition tough. I think though if you want a boxy truck or SUV, Rivian is a solid choice. Could Rivian benefit from another company on their Cargo Delivery trucks?

Can't remember the specifics but something went way bad last year with Amazon's deal with Rivian to take over their delivery fleet. It was not related to the quality of the trucks.

Working off that oversold condition this week, after a really nice pop on Friday. I didn't want to buy in leading into the weekend, but I did pick up a little bit of TSLA and META this week, both of which are back above their 50 day moving averages, and META in particular printing a nice volatility squeeze/expansion pattern after a couple months of sideways consolidation.
This market has been fairly difficult, rewarding patience and generally punishing overactive traders amidst the chop. However, given the preponderance of bad headline news, the fact that S&P continues to bounce off of its 200 day so decisively (presently pushing back above its 20 day), is worth paying attention to. Despite mounting signals that we are more or less edging our way into WW3 (just waiting on China to make it's move against Taiwan), that the market continues to climb this wall of worry is impressive.
That being said, today is the third day of rather strong upside movement on the S&P, and in general, "the 3 day rule" is worth keeping in the back of any trader's mind. That is, you generally try to get in on the first day of a move (lowest risk since you can set a tight stop to control losses if you're wrong), you add to positions on the second day (follow through above the prior day's high typically indicates that there's some room to go with more buyers behind you), and then you stop buying and tighten up stops on the third day, as at this point, the best capitalized traders are already in the move (which is why there was a move in the first place) and are looking to take some profits against the lesser capitalized traders who are late and FOMO'ing, helping to take the smart money out of their trade.
Different dynamics for different time frames. The S&P's 50 day also looms overhead, so it's hard to get too enthusiastic here. I suspect, as I did last week, that we still need to churn around the 200 day a bit more before we see a longer/sustained trend higher.
Regarding RIVN, the chart isn't very pretty. It's in a sloppy consolidation pattern around its 200 day, and likely has "more work to do" before it can see a sustained move higher. Fundamentally, it would seem that the company needs to get costs under control as well. I'm not too interested in it, although it can present some nice short-term moves on volatility, if that's your thing. I do like the look of their trucks though. One of my neighbors has had a pretty slick matte mustard colored one rollin' around here for the last year or two that I often admire whilst walkin' the dog.

Rivian seems to be holding strong since it's drop after diluting shares. The quality of their truck will make deliver numbers strong imo.
Bought Walgreens WBA after earnings. I was curious if it would sell off or cut the dividend. Only briefly and I was too eager to buy in at market open. Now 50 cents down. Yesterday I bought some Fortinet FTNT cyber security after a downgrade. I got at a good price 56.30 and stock increased 2% by day end.

I think Amazon is going to destroy Walgreens and CVS etc. I'm sick of both of them as a pharmacy customer, and my doctor says screw them, switch to online 90 day prescriptions.
I read an analyst not too long ago touting CVS stock, which surprised me. Their trend lines are OK and Walgreens is a sinking ship with way too many stores they can't close fast enough.
They both have mismanaged pharmacies and over priced retail. I'm betting they go the way of the dinasour.

Yes Amazon is good too. Some want their medicine the same day. Especially if you have a condition like athletes foot and you can't stop itching. Walgreens has a new CEO from Cigna Health, so a better pick than the last CEO. They have a 8.4% dividend and the stock has been hit heavily because of the opiate lawsuits. Seems like there's more upside than downside risk.

I added a little META this morning, as it held firm with some nice long wicks right after the open gap lower, which also coincided with holding its 8 day EMA. Market is chewing sideways here, but the fact that it came right back from the gap down opening is encouraging. Not leaning in heavy, but I do want to have some exposure here. If you don't want to be stock specific, QQQ and SPY look pretty decent here. SPY still has the 50 day overhead, but a close above today's highs which more or less tagged the 50 day would be a very positive sign. The QQQ's are essentially marching along its 50 day, can keep a nice tight stop just under today's low.
Again, not swinging for the fences here... but the fact that this market hasn't continued to melt down on the back of economic data that has been supporting sustained/higher interest rates, including the continued unrest with Ukraine/Russia and the renewed intensity and war posturing in Israel/Gaza; well that's pretty impressive and indicates some resiliency under the hood. Keep in mind we are in earnings season and you generally don't want to hold any short term trades over earnings, because you just never know which way they're going to go.

Are taxes on leveraged derivatives super high or complicated?
I'm thinking about playing around with some SDS and/or SPXU but I'm concerned about surprises and complication when it comes time to file my taxes.

SDS and SPXU are exchange traded funds, and although they do utilize leverage internally, for tax purposes they are treated the same as any plain vanilla equity transaction, whereby you calculate your net gain/loss at the time of sale and (at least in the US) pay your nominal ordinary income tax rate on gains accrued over < 1 year holding period, or a reduced tax rate for gains accrued over > 1 year holding period.
There can be some additional accounting and an extra tax form to file in the US, pertaining to Form 6781: Gains and Losses from Section 1256 Contracts and Straddles, but unless you're trading index futures or hedging via multiple option-contract strategies, you won't need to worry about this.

So if I'm just bouncing back and forth between SPLG, and SDS/SPXU, the taxes will be the same as any stock or ETF held for less than 12 months, which is the same as for my day job?

Indeed. You will of course also be subject to the IRS imposed wash sale rule, since you are trading in and out of the same/similar instruments inside of a 30 day window. It's not really a big deal, but can have a marginal affect on your taxes.

I’m going to post my watchlists for small caps if anyone is interested. I’d love to chat with anyone about anything! **These are cheap names for a reason, but we want the ‘range’ they provide. If you nail a move, lock it in!**
$PRZO Israel Drone company. Getting attention / volume due to the situation overseas. Using 1.80 - 2.00 as support gauge.
$HUBC Israel Cyber Defense company. Also running due to the situation overseas. If volume stays, this may want a buck. 0.50 big support / psych level.
$ICU Biotech running on news the FDA gave their device Breakthru Device Designation. They will dilute asap! Looking for a short blowout before they drop the offering.
Backside Short Watch $TPST Broke small cap records on 10/11 for biggest single day % gain (4,500%+). Still has a ton of downside room. I like pops vs 7.00 as risk.
$SECO Sympathy runner to $TPST. Same as above, short buy-ins and FTDs are done imo. I like pops vs 1.75

I took in a handful of MARA $9 calls on December expiry @ $1.25 a contract today. Was trying to bid as low as $1.05 but it kept getting away from me, and given the relatively tight base between $7.50 - $9 that the stock has been carving out, including the recent higher than average volume accumulation days, amidst the favorable backdrop in aggregate for crypto, I figured the potential upside for a stock like MARA is significant, whereas the downside is easily marked (stop below $7.50 for me).
I also tried to sell a handful of $8 November expiry puts for $0.50, but I couldn't get a fill.
Market overall still looks like shit, but since my equity accounts are flush in cash and crypto wants to blast off, I'll happily hop along for the ride on the equity side.
