Long term we gotta be close to bottoming out

I'll probably keep trading but I'd like to start setting and forgetting some stuff here for 5 years or more

We got stocks down 75% like tsla for instance and good companies at 50% off

Seems like a good time to start building

Long term charts loke the monthly are hitting Bottoms on the rsi

Pretty good recovery today, S&P successfully bouncing right off its 20 day.

I came down with a cold yesterday so I slept in past the open here on the pacific coast this morning, and don't generally like to trade much on Fridays anyway... but that MSFT position I was building is back in the green, would've liked to buy more on the pull back but not right in front of earnings which are due out next week.  ZIM, although having a deeper than appropriate "phase 2" pullback yesterday, looks like it's going to continue its expansion higher.  SHOP really putting in a nice bounce off its 8 day EMA, my short $39 and $39.50 puts are looking to expire worthless today, although honestly I would not mind getting put the stock, as I want this one on the books for a longer term swing.

NVDA also looking good today after two days of pull back to successfully test its 200 day, almost want to buy some right now, but I have no idea how I'm going to be feeling on Monday, so the less to manage, the better!  RH also putting in a solid bounce off its 20 day after its phase 2 pull back, but the bollingers are a bit wider than I like on this one, so I think it'll probably have a little more bumping around to do here around its 200 day moving average.

Looks like I was wise to shut down those TSLA bear call spreads when the opportunity arose yesterday too!  All in all, nice way to end the week (with the exception of the viral infection :undecided:).

The GNS move all came premarket 😒. I knew coming out that high at open it was a busted long and stayed out. Tried to hit a new pattern I've been seeing a lot on CBAY but didn't work and took a great stop with minimal loss. There was really nothing on the daily there but I thought eh..take a shot.

Banks are forecasting a recession and I have to agree. Reality is quite persistent, so I'm shorting everything, except Alibaba currently.

Not saying we're not going to tag a recession here, but keep in mind that recessions are always confirmed with a lag as the data manifests itself, and that often once a recession is declared, the forward pricing mechanism that is the markets begins to price in improvement.

For my part, I am agnostic on the recession fears.  The Fed has a tendency to overdo their tightening, and they've certainly been fairly aggressive here, and there are a lot of other moving parts globally that are creating additional layers of uncertainty.  But I'm not about to lean short right here right now.  Based on the charts I'm seeing, we are building a potential base with a higher low in the S&P.  That base and higher low may very well end up being invalidated, but for now, it warrants a neutral to slightly optimistic stance, in my view.

As most traders who have been in the trade for some time will tell you, you can only trade the market that's in front of you, not the market you might think will be coming, or the market you may want to see.

Any thoughts on how oil is going to do this year? It is near all time highs. There are many catalysts that could drive the price down, such as easing tensions in eastern Europe. I think that big oil is posed for a massive sell off

I wouldn't really know what's to happen, just gotta follow the price.  It doesn't really appear to be near all time highs though, it's come off of its 2022 highs that neared $120 and is now back around $80, likely as a reflection of adaptation to the Ukraine-Russian war, central banks raising rates, as well as some supply chain normalization.

Not expecting easing tensions on the war front anytime soon either.  And while I do see efforts being made to ween ourselves off fossil fuels and the push into renewables continuing, that's also a very long road that'll take a while to come to full realization.  I think oil is a fine place to park money, although it's a little tricky to be buying in to it right now.  If you already own some though, especially if it's in a company paying dividends like CVX or XOM, the charts are strong and intact, so I'd keep riding that trend until the trend breaks.  If you're feeling nervous about it, implement a trailing stop to manage your risk for you.

I believe Oil will have a hard time breaching $100/b and if it does it will be short lived. Bearish trend and all the recent data has pointed to a slow down in growth. Interestingly Copper and Oil are both diverging right now. Civil unrest in mining countries like Peru and China consumption fueling the supply crunch. Think that's more supply related than "growth" related. Logically thinking, high oil means costs of things skyrocket and throwing in interest rate hikes, the demand destruction that alone would cause would be massive,so any oil rally wouldn't be sustainable.

On the recession stuff. Sure we can have a recession anytime this year it seems. Most analyst have it in 2H 2023. The average bear market or recession last like 12-16 months and one can argue we we're already in one "technically" before.

Can still make money in the stock market either way just don't open any sketchy long positions

Nvda and semiconductors in general looking like they might break out on larger time frames

Fuck reading the news, read the chart, follow the money,  play smart, and build wealth

Looking for a solid weekly candle then to consider selling the rip and waiting for a stronger signal of a trend reversal, not sure yet

All of that out the window if the base loses support and fails to break out and a rally is invalidated

Outperforming on the day thanks my positions in MDC, ZIM and MSFT, although I am a bit disappointed not to have moved on my desire to own some NVDA on Friday, as well as my short puts on SHOP just barely expiring worthless instead of getting put the stock, which is now up another 7% on the day.  So it goes...

S&P is making a move above 4000, which is a fairly key psychological level.  With MSFT's earnings due after the close tomorrow, I cut my April $240 call option position in half.  Yes, I bought out to April because I want to keep MSFT on the books, but earnings are always a wildcard, and with a 25% gain on the position, I'm happy to book those profits in case we see a shortfall on the report, at which point I'll be waiting for an opportunity to add back at more favorable prices.  If the report is good, well I kept half the position, so I am prepared either way.

Although a lot of charts are starting to look fairly strong here, it's important not to chase.  After the big moves from last Thursday's lows, one would have to expect that further upside will be harder to come by.  This is why I'm dishing some out as a seller, instead of buying here.  Sell the rips, buy the dips.  ZIM is really moving nicely out of its volatility squeeze, hopefully it'll close the day near its highs and on better than average volume.

Everything is already looking over extended from this rally. I definitely have the urge to add something but so far 2 hours into the session I only have some open limit orders that aren't filling. Solid rally none the less.

I know what you mean about having the urge to add something.  So interesting how the market works the hardest to suck you in, at what is most probably a bad time to be buying (at least insofar as the near term time frames).  I suppose you could watch strong issues that have been trading hugely above VWAP for the bulk of the day, to make an orderly "touch and go" on a gentle pullback to VWAP through midday, in attempts to catch an end of day push back to the highs... but as I suspect the S&P's 4000 level will be a bit of a magnet, I just don't think the opportunities at this point, intraday, will be very good probability wise.

Yes I also don't like what were seeing here and agree that petroleum will have a tough time justifying a return to the price gouging we have to pay for the pandemic level. I however can't see any reason to believe in a deep deep recession. I really believe that's what we're seeing here is the "they have to pay for the pandemic" mentality and the ironing out of logistical wrinkles sprinkled with a perhaps more than healthy amount of greed. I really wish folks would protest this more heavily with thier wallets but you idiots keep buying shit at a feever pitch since the end of lockdow. I think it's just more time needed for things to balance back a bit but realistically is any this actually bad for the economy or just a natural result of the pandemic where we already saw an extreme reset and reorganization?

My low price 20 day high scans turned up a lot of media/broadcasting stocks having a little sector run. Not sure what the story behind this is but I thought I'd share..
