Short calls aren't my cup of tea but I would think that'd work pretty well. 7.80 to 8.50 would be my killzone if it keeps looking strong. 7.8 is that 200 ema and 8.5 looks like a very key level from way back.
This might be a good time for me to do a paper trade expiriment to see how a synthetic short (one long put plus one short call) compares to a short share position or just long puts or short calls.

Picked up my starter in MSFT April $240 calls on the pullback this morning, up 5% so far.  If the 20 day holds price down, I will add a little more, but probably not until after earnings.

TSLA back below its 8 day EMA, maybe I should have lowered my ask a few pennies on those bear call spreads, but on those credit trades, it's really important not to accept too little, as the risk/reward is built into your fill price.  The small fill I got a couple days ago on the $126/$127's is already up 50%.

XOM hanging tight after coming back from a morning swoon.  KGC just farting around a bit but continuing to churn higher.  MDC now flagging above its 200 day, still waiting for some weakness to add a bit more to that high yielder.

Been watching BBBY, but nothing much going on there at the moment.  It is still printing a higher low, which is encouraging, but it doesn't have much momentum in either direction.  Since we're heading into the weekend, I'm unlikely to do too much else today.  Happy with what I got and don't want to do anything too aggressive that I'll regret today (or Monday ).

Well since I am at my desk and noticed BBBY getting a volume spike off of VWAP and its 8 hr EMA while moving toward the top of its daily range, I'm taking a quick swing at it with common shares entered at $4.87, initial stop $4.70, almost immediately moved above $5.  Pretty decent size since I found a good entry, will definitely be out by the end of the day.

Edit:  Got clipped on a re-tag of VWAP that bounced right at $4.70.  Well that's frustrating, as the issue is right back to $5 again. :flowstone:

Yes SLB did similarly. I like how they seem more isolated from the rest of the sector albeit slightly. I think they have a more diversified revenue stream not only in the foreign and domestic petroleum markets but other avenues as well. They also see the writing on the wall for petroleum and have made serious moves toward the future :sadyes:

Rough chart, I be in a better market with that would have been a good entry spot and a nice trade.
You know, getting my stops hit to the cent happens to me a lot. I try to add a few cents to obvious risk levels give room for that but it never seems to work.

It can be frustrating, but it's the stops that save you and keep you in the game.  Case in point, my relatively small 3.5% loss on that BBBY long attempt would have ended the day down 25% were I not stopped out.  Even with that fumble, I ended the day up twice the S&P's 0.39% in my trading account, and up nearly 2% in my longer term accounts where I don't do as many foolish things like try to day trade a stock that has moved 333%+ in a week. :tongue2:

As is often said, your first loss is your best loss.

Yeah taking stops is absolutely essential. Big prop firms don't worry so much about their guys losing as they do their guys breaking discipline and not taking stops, that's how blowups happen.

But oh yeah BBBY it had such a nice fade late day, nice perfect failures 1mn 50 ema and painless from there. Of course anything that fades that nice and clean is HTB or 70+ bucks a share.

Alrighty so off topic the overextended etb lf first red days have been shit lately so...

I have two long intraday IPO plays on the horizon, they keep pushing the dates but should be next week into week after. If there's any kind of hype and it's a small offering you'll sometimes get a nice range finding run on day two or three. I had one of these go 5x in 15 minutes once..of course I took profit way sooner than 5x then watched the most glorious s-waving rip I've ever seen from the sidelines. But yea, liquid af, Price action surprisingly clean, easy to find places to set stops..pure wall street intraday beauties. But obviously no help from daily chart levels...just pure intraday ace combat.😍 Usually IPOs range find up day one when you can't trade them easily with regular brokers AFAIK. Then day two on they just crash or flounder then become illiquid so you have to really have to be sharp on the patterns and kind of knowing what might have a little hype. Long only because I'm pretty sure you can't borrow recent IPO shares, at least with my brokers. Also I think shorting a recent low float parabolic IPO would way way more dangerous than similar spac merger catalyst plays.. With spacs you have that 10.00 "tether point" that acts like a force of gravity and let's face it there's never gonna be another DWAC but there's going to be plenty of IPOs that go stratosphere and don't come back. Idk

I'm hoping to be around for the next bull run to level into some hot IPOs coiling over vwap day two because I think this is the classic long play nobody talks about and there's not too many shenanigans like you get with spacs, promotions and meme longs.🤫

I generally won't trade an IPO on Day 1.  My IPO strategy involves letting the first day's range play out without me; I then set alerts just above the first day's range, as a break outside of the first day's range typically leads to rapid continuation and improved technical evaluation.  Because you generally can't short a new issue (no borrows and non-optionable), these trades are generally limited to upside continuation during the first week or so.  If I like the stock and it is behaving well, I'll swing part of the position overnight, resetting my stop to the prior day's low each morning until I'm taken out.

After that initial take out, I watch the issue settle and set an alert at the all time high, and if/when it moves above it, you're again likely to see an even more prolonged period of upside advance as there will be no resistance overhead and less of the early "hot hand" money whipping things around.

Yea we are on the same page on these. In my experience, first day IPO isn't really tradeable. You know, I can't seem to find shares to borrow even a couple weeks after IPO.

FULC.. 🧐 The daily chart on this thing looks like it's a 5 million float not 48. 😵💫

MESA.. This one ate me up short on 1/5. Waited forever for an entry and it still bucked me off. Once again I should never trade something I don't really understand.. I never trade airlines but I figured eh, negative EPS, sort of negative news, why not try for at least a consolidation day.
Later I figured its unusual strength might have something to do with its bvps is 8 something while share price is in the 2s.. I don't know how relevant this is for airlines but I rarely see that much of an imbalance.

Eyes on SHOP & ACHC, these have consolidated sideways for a while and are starting to look frisky as of Friday's action.  MMM also looking pretty good for longer term positioning, although you can probably let it do a little more work under its 200 day and catch it at ~$125 on weakness to start building a position.

Also keeping an alert above $36 for MBLY, this one falls into the coveted AI arena, and a close above $36 will see it pushing into "blue sky" territory (aka all time highs).  Be mindful MMM reports on the 24th and MBLY on the 26th, so I'm not really itching to jump into those in a big way just yet, although I may take them for a short term momentum trade if conditions warrant while I'm paying attention.

SHOP looking pretty good, but I got scared and didn't jump in.

I did get a fill on TSLA $128/$129 bear call spreads @ $0.50 net credit, for a 1:1 risk reward ratio.  I think this one will cool off to settle closer to $120 toward the back half of the week.  I am hedging this slightly bearish position by being long next week's SPY $399 calls, with a protective stop of course, they are already up a handsome 10% and with the SPY moving above its 200 day, this one could continue to move for the balance of the day.

Took some decent gains in KGC common and calls as the stock hit Friday's low, I'm out of the position for now, even as I think it's probably going to continue higher over time.  There's nothing wrong with it, but I just want to reduce exposure a bit so I have less to track.

Took half of the SPY weekly calls off for +10%, letting the other half ride with a protective stop to prevent any potential for loss (and that just got hit as I was writing this post for +7% on the second tranche).

Ended up taking a little bit of SHOP common and sold a couple of $39 puts that expire Friday for $0.70 a piece to either generate income or continue building a position.

TSLA putting in a better showing than I expected, but as I've offset any potential loss from my bear call spreads via the SPY hedge I just closed, I'm going to let this ride according to plan.

Added a little more to SHOP and MSFT.

Let XOM go, nothing really wrong with XOM, but I wanted to clean up my books to clear my mind, the position was bigger than it should have been and unless it's really ripping, that's not what I want to see on my books.

Sure has.  I ditched a while ago, but it sure would've been nice to catch the recent upswing.  I have so much exposure directly to crypto and the market has generally been so unappealing for so long that I just kinda lost track of it.

Same here. Was loosely keeping an eye on it and admittedly neglected to buy in at the 3-4$ range. Now it’s at a point where I’d rather wait for a cycle back down, rather than to buy here and hope for crypto keep rising. Never got my 10k BTC :’(

Thinking about adding MSFT as well. Just deposited another 6k for my Roth. I did this last year and lost it all almost immediately with the overall market downturn, so am a little sheepish this go.
