I'm not sure I would call one leading the other necessarily, although because of the nature of how stocks only trade for a limited business day session, you will see crypto react to big moves in equities at their market open (including early premarket action if the moves are big). It's a risk based relationship, and crypto has become a major risk asset, so when sentiment favors investors taking on more risk, crypto offers outsized reward, but the inverse is also true, whereby risk off behavior punishes crypto valuations in a big way.
An interesting dynamic I was made aware of recently, is a strategy whereby traditional equities traders, in particular short sellers, have started to hedge their bets with crypto exposure. Because crypto almost invariably offers larger %-moves than equities, a traditional market short seller can hedge their risk of an upside reversal by taking limited (less capital intense) long side exposure to crypto, since crypto tends to move violently at inflection points.

What makes it go up? What makes it go down? I get that it's mostly (or totally) emotions, but what makes the crypto people happy or sad about crypto, anyways?
A lot man
Crypto people don't determine that shit, big money does
Exposure to risk, expectation of future, threat to other financial interests, it's a huge game with many variables, that's why it's so difficult to accurately predict
I'd say in large it comes down to the entirety of the financial markets and where it use and purpose sits within that market and how that use and purpose can successfully tread the conditions of the markets at any given time
Which doesn't say much at all

Options are highly levered, limited liquidity derivative instruments that should not be utilized by those who have not been able to achieve success in plain vanilla common stock trades. You can get lucky with them as a novice, but that won't do you any good if you continue trading past your luck. As quickly as you can gain, you can lose. I love trading options, but man, unless I'm doing the every-daily-trade thing up @ 6am (pacific time) and reviewing the data after each day's close to reset my stop parameters, it's just too dangerous to wing it. I've taken most of the last year away from my trade desk, and I haven't much missed it... mostly because I have a 5 year old for which it is a pleasure to spend time watching him discover the wonders of the world. I'm sure I'll get back in the saddle eventually, once he's off doing more of his own thing, but I also know that when I do, I'm not likely to jump into a bunch of options trades right off the bat. You have to be in sync with the market, plan your trade and trade your plan. With options especially, you need to be able to show up each day to monitor the trade, and be ruthless in cutting your losses ASAP. Your first loss is always your best loss.

it's the price action that determines the price of the option it's really stupid to buy options based on that fact
which is why you do stupid shit like long options you think are going to explode or implode
it's more about the character of the company than an investment

I'm up to $720 from my $500 initial investment after 1 year of having a TDAmeritrade account. That's a 44% gain YoY.
That's vs -5.6% on the S&P, so I'd say I'm ballin.

Michael Burry said he sold all stocks except Geo Group which invests in private prisons, mental health and residential treatment facilities. When I first started investing in mutual funds I rejected social investing and made sure the diversified funds had tobacco stocks, because they were earners. I'm debating whether I could stomach a small cap in prisons. But I'll probably watch the price action and think about it,
I can't determine how Burry did shorting Tesla because it was complicated beyond my comprehension.

Damn Party City has really done well over a month! What's are September's stocks to buy? Lately I've been loading up on Costco (COST) and On-Running shoes (ONON). I'd like Dutch Bros (BROS), but it still seems high. Thoughts?

i am interested in owning intel for the long term. i think they have a bright future but not without a lot of hurdles to overcome first
and because of that it can always get worse before it gets better. they can easily continue flubbing it and the stock craters more. that's what i'm hoping for eventually, i will then use that as my opportunity to enter
short term who knows, as with everything else markets
i've been pretty dialed in lately, its a huge tax on the brain

Basing that on anything in particular or you just don't think we've seen market bottoms or?
Looks like a decent time to be building AMD or similar stocks, I like MP a lot
