Depends on your risk but I would avoid $SPY and $BTC myself unless you like volatility and believe in the long haul.

$ARIS I am still invested in. The stock is a pretty good deal under 12$. It has a 17$ analyst target and is offering cash dividends already.

Unless I go completely broke I plan on keeping SPY for the real long haul. Until I retire.

With Bitcoin it’s the same with an exception that I can sell when it hits 65

With ARIS the note I made to myself when I first looked at it was buy if it hits 11

I appreciate your response and welcome another if you (or anyone else) has anything to say about that approach

SPY and NTC are both great long term. My only advice is set it and then delete the ticker from your phone

Couple tidbits I caught on the wire today... indicative of the extreme volatility and generally sick/uncertain market we are facing:
  • S&P has had an intraday range of at least 2.25% everyday this week! :whoa: :toomuchacid:
  • ALL major averages are below key moving averages :barf:

Energy is still the outlier... MPLX with an 8.6% dividend ain't looking too bad! :rocket:

Natural Gas was up big the past few days. Hitting records. We have multiple things going on with that including a massive east coast blizzard cyclone and Ukraine/Russia conflict.

Quote:

...in Europe, gas storage is at 41% full compared with a five-year average of 57%
Spot Henry Hub prices popped above $7/mmBtu as traders squeezed the February NG contract that closed today

Gazprom has positioned an LNG tanker next to Kaliningrad, an ominous sign that Russia could expect its Baltic neighbors to shut gas to the Russian oblast...
...like if, for instance, Russia invaded Ukraine and shuts off supply to the Baltics

The Netherlands is working on an emergency plan to ensure natural gas energy security in the event Russia invades Ukraine and gas supplies are interrupted...

Oil prices cooled a bit after reaching their highest levels since 2014, largely driven by the continued strengthening of the U.S. dollar.
Quote:

...meanwhile, as crude prices dipped a bit, New York Harbor gasoline prices reached a 30-year high as supplies struggle to keep pace with record demand...

...the rapid rise in prices accentuates the central Atlantic region's growing reliance on fuel imports, particularly from Europe and pipeline deliveries from the USGC...

...globally, diesel stockpiles are also slumping and providing way for a spike in spot prices, particularly as Europe's largest refinery curbs production amid maintenance

Citi raised its 1Q Brent oil price outlook to $79/bbl, up from $75/bbl, reflecting the near-term market tightness...meanwhile, Brent touched ~$90/bbl yesterday...

twilio has been tanking

I bought some in November and it’s down a little more than 30%

I’m actually thinking of doubling down on it

buy low and all that

thoughts?

I don't know about twilio (gotta run out the door in 4 minutes so I can't take a look at the moment), but I would not be buying anything today.  We've had a nice bounce off the lows of last week.  The "3 day rule" is in play: "smart money" buys the first day (the bounce), you can add a bit the second day or buy if you're late (continuation), and the "dumb money" buys the third day, effectively taking some of the smart money out of their trade for a profit.  Resistance looms overhead in general.  S&P about to run into its 50 day moving average from underneath.  Expect the expected, that there will be some downside retracement imminent.

m 2c is that its real hard to know where the previous high flying tech stocks end up putting in a bottom, some of them def wont reach their previous highs, let alone snapping back. you could be averaging down only to lose more. if you're averaging down on a company you need to have a clear view of how the fundamentals of the business are improving. if not, market is going to keep punishing imo

FB really stank up the join on earnings.  Stock closed the day at $323 and dropped as low as $244 after hours.  That is a HUGE move, and below its 3rd standard deviation bollinger band, which barely ever happens (mathematically, it's nearly impossible for stocks to close outside of their 3rd standard deviation band).  If you are comfortable on a day trade, I would recommend keeping an eye on it tomorrow at/before the open, if it's still down at those levels, it's almost certainly due to snap back very violently (just don't overstay your welcome).  Below $244, the trade is busted, not to say you won't find another entry 15 minutes later.

I’ll throw what I was going to double down with twilio at it but a part of me is thinking hell I’ve been expecting Facebook to do a MySpace for about decade now. Maybe that clunky pos is finally kicking the bucket.

Edit
Zillow took a similar drop awhile ago due to some controversy they said so I bought some thinking Zillow is a mainstay it’ll bounce back but it’s gone down even more :crying:

Also circa 2015 FB was under $100. It seems like at that point it was already at world domination status. It seems weird that it’s grown that much since then. But I guess it’s just because the entire market has grown so damn much???

I'm not suggesting FB as a long term reversal higher... I'm suggesting holding it for, maybe an hour, depending on how things play out.  The stock is going to open right near the $244 lows... a lot of institutional holders on this one, and it takes them time to unwind their trades, so be careful.

Stop on FB Feb $240 calls moved up to $239 (break-even-ish).  Will add to position on a break above the intraday high $246.43.

Regarding day trading, if you have $25K+ in your account, you don't need to worry about it.  But if you're below or at risk of being below that level... here are the FINRA rules:

Quote:

If a trader makes four or more day trades, buying or selling (or selling and buying) the same security within a single day, over the course of any five business days in a margin account, and those trades account for more than 6% of their account activity over the period, the trader’s account will be flagged as a pattern day trader account.

If this happens, even inadvertently, the trader will have to maintain a minimum balance of $25,000 in the flagged account—on a permanent basis. If a pattern day trader account holds less than the $25,000 minimum at the close of a business day, the trader will be limited on the following day to making liquidating trades only.
