As strange as it sounds I probably should be happy to have moved everything out of AAPL, AMZN, and BA. Still got a bruising holding SPy for even 2 weeks (lost 4 of my 6k contribution), but it would’ve been closer to 8-9k in those individual stocks. Don’t know if I’m even thinking about this the right way, should one put stops on funds like the SPY?
If this keeps crumbling it might be hard not to shift all my capital back into those individual stocks again.

People definitely trade spy
The chart is ugly in my opinion
But obviously you already know my limited knowledge and experience and I don't have the first clue how to manage large sums of money or long term investing strategies.

That makes two of us
I think anyone not short is probably getting beaten down pretty hard these last few weeks. My impression had been that with all the stimulus there was almost no way markets couldn’t stay afloat by virtue that influx of new cash, along with dollar devaluation - who wants to hold cash during an inflationary period….
The 2022 sample size is small thus far, and outside of a too good to resist opportunity with my normal stocks, I think the smartest bet is to hodl..

Generally speaking, for a retirement account, you probably don't want to use a stop on a diversified position such as the SPY. However, that's not to say the use of a partial position trailing stop is a bad idea, you just want to be careful about overtrading in accounts/positions that are necessarily purposed for an exceedingly long term time horizon. Frankly, if you had wanted to put a stop on SPY, it would have already been hit. With a diversified index like SPY, once it's down 10%, you should really be thinking about buying it, not selling it.
On that point, it's Friday, options are expiring, key levels are broken all across the board... However, we are hitting the 200 day moving average on the S&P... something that hasn't happened in 400 days. Granted, that last time it hit was on the way up, which does create a different dynamic. Nevertheless, I would expect to see a bounce next week, and if you are cash heavy, this is the right time to double check your shopping list and get ready to pounce on bounces. You probably don't want to go in big today (never want to the be the first soldier out of the fox hole), but early next week will likely present some decent long opportunities and if you're feeling the itch, you could probably buy small starters today.

Wouldn't touch tlry until it shows strong signs of reversal but that's just me
I won't be touching any of this market until I see some stability in the form of support levels that can hold some tests
Looking at spy we could see a large correction imo and there is plenty of room to fall and if it does then imo we have some time to make decisions
I'd be surprised if any upward momentum can be sustained

I didn't time it but I was heavy cash Friday and added some nice dips. 2022 is going to be the year of the devaluation of these overvalued stocks imo. Precious metals and oil seemed to have held up the strongest so far during this downturn.
If you are thinking about investing in individual stocks. Follow some of these guidelines
- Understand the business you are purchasing - Make sure it has a durable competitive advantage to it's peers - Management needs to have some talent (similar to a football team) CEO is the Quarterback - Ensure that the company has a margin of safety (Business MOAT)
You don't make money when you buy and sell..you make money when you wait. Another tip is you are never going to time the bottom perfectly and even trying is ridiculous. You should begin to purchase over a period of time depending on your goal. This way you will have an average and a better idea where the true bottom is besides throwing everything in at once.

I'll wait on the sidelines but again, that's just me
If you're going for longer term here and want to hold in this I'd imagine going with some solid companies offering dividends might be the way to go
I'll be watching gold and metals here and keeping on eye on high volume stocks for some trading opportunities

Ok, so I am moving out of SPY and into individual stocks at this point. These prices are so dirt cheap, I can’t resist. Mug hit be folly but this seems like quite a buying opportunity.

MSFT looks buyable here (although earnings tomorrow), bull put spread on NFLX, I'm buying MARA, SSO, we are bouncing now. FOMC this week. Expect that they change their tune a bit to be more "dovish" on rate hikes. Remember, the Fed is a private outfit effectively run by bankers, it is in their interest to keep asset prices on an upward trajectory. They may say that they act without direct influence from the stock market, but that's a bold faced lie. The most important thing however, is not necessarily what they say, but how the market reacts to it. Risk is high right now, but today is a day you can definitely put some money to work, with a stop below the intraday low. We want to see a strong close to expect an increased probability of follow-through.

Well that worked out rather well, very nice close. Funny how a -1000pt DOW and a Nasdaq down better than 4%, would close the day in the green. Ultimately, it was the heavy selling on Friday, in conjunction with the 7th down day in the making, and especially the tagging of the third standard deviation bollinger band (one of my favorite indicators) on the downside, that lent me confidence we couldn't go too much lower in the short term. Where we go from here is anyone's guess, so play it close to the vest and make sure that today's intraday lows serve as your absolute stop on all trading positions (years long/retirement holdings may be exempted).

QQQ's highest volume in 10 years. Impressive volume across the board. Definitely a tradable low here, although be mindful of the potential of the market to retest. I reiterate that stops must be kept at least at today's lows, and if you took on a lot of exposure today, you should consider partial break-even stops higher.
