Picked up a small piece of RIOT. I know crypto has been on a bit of a year lately, but with it becoming a national currency I think that there is room to run. Am legit scared to pick up MARA at that price, even though I want to….
Always liked RIOt, local company too.

I keep RIOT and MARA on my screens every day, and mick, I love ya man, but I think you picked the wrong horse. RIOT has seen increasingly heavy distribution over the last few days, whereas MARA has seen the exact opposite, being accumulated on increasingly higher volume. I should have got back into MARA when it bounced off its 20 day a few weeks ago, but I wasn't convinced crypto in aggregate was quite ready to breakout and I didn't want to chase it once I realized what was happening... but gun to my head, if I had to buy RIOT or MARA right here right now, it's MARA all day, even up here in the nosebleeds. I could be proven wrong of course (and I hope for your sake that I am), but the price action on RIOT indicates something is wrong with RIOT. RIOT did nothing but sell off all day long, so buying in here is simply hoping that RIOT is going to bounce off of its 50 day because "it's gone down enough." I shouldn't have to remind you, that hope is not a great trading strategy. I recommend waiting for confirmation that buyers are stepping in if you're trying to buy weakness (and I'm certainly not recommending chasing MARA right now), frankly I think it would be best to just sit on your hands.
(Guys pictured are the dudes who run the installation outfit I used, FYI )
Now as for them solar panels... I put up an 8.91kW system. 27 x Panasonic 330 watt with Enphase IQ7X microinverters. When these went up in 2019, the Panasonic's were far and away the best bang for the buck with regard to price vs efficiency, including a better temperature coefficient than most competing panels, as well as a killer 25 year warranty (from a company likely to still be around) guaranteeing the panels to produce 90%+ of their rated power at year 25. I wanted to wait for the IQ8 micros so I could be grid agnostic and actually have power in the event of an outage, but suppliers couldn't provide a reliable estimate on the release date (which had already been pushed back several times), and the solar tax credit was set to begin eroding the following year, as well as my local utility rearranging their mandatory "Time of Use" plans to disadvantage solar producers.
As fate would have it, I got grandfathered in on the last day that a specific Time of Use plan was available for my area, which generally credits me $0.25-0.45/kWh when the sun is out (variable rates depending on season and day vs weekend), and at nighttime the rates drop as low as <$0.10/kWh when I have to pay to pull from the grid. This pricing disparity works particularly well for us since my wife collects rare plants and we have a greenhouse for tropical stuff that requires a 1500watt electric heater to run most of most nights to keep them happy. So I'm completely offsetting all non-mandatory power related charges with a system payback period of 5 years. In fact, I've been overproducing about $600 of energy for the two annual net metering cycles we've completed so far, and unfortunately for me, Edison only cuts a check for wholesale energy rates on the surplus (about $0.04/kWh), which gives me about $60 of credit to use toward the following year's mandatory base charges. If I can get my hand on a couple of the nVidia RTX 3090 GPU's for a new computer I'm having built, I might start mining some crypto overnight to offset my net credit that's being sold to the utility on the cheap.
To your question regarding daily production on the system, it of course varies seasonally with the summer months producing quite a bit more than the winter months (hence why the utility only settles the bill once annually). My stats indicate that I have produced 33.3 MWh over the lifetime of the system, which averages out to ~39.3 kWh being produced each day.

First off thank you Geo for the analysis of RIOT. In all honesty, I was not looking at any metrics other than the staggered push upward as compared to MARA, which as you stated appears up on the nosebleeds. But maybe it’s not, and maybe there is a reason RIOT is selling off in a hot space that I should’ve looked deeper into. I will exit this position first thing Tuesday. Am fortunate to have stopped short of taking an aggressive position and kept the entry moderate.
As far as those panels, that’s great to hear to hear that you took advantage of the tax credits and got grandfathered in at the nice rate. I believe the tax credit this year in California at least is still $9500, but drops significantly in 2022. We are in the process of purchasing out home and if we do, I might find a way to make the panels happen before the end of the year. ~40 kWh/day would be enough to do everything our home needed, including a good bit of daily charging
Hope you all had a good weekend. Will be up early all this week as my daughters school is starting, am hoping that provides an opportunity to be around as markets kick off each day

AAPL - Added back a small boat of weeklies on the continuation move out of its squeeze, hugging the upper bollinger band on the daily, all time highs, blue sky territory. Stop at low of day.
AMZN - Picking up a single Oct $3500 call to start. Nice little flag after the bounce off its 200 day, consolidating right at its 50 day moving average with the 8 day racing to catch up and support price. Stop at just below the Friday low at $3435, which is also home of the 8 day EMA.
SPY showing some weakness here in the early innings. Don't want to get too aggressive.

k, so. While I'm still learning I'm placing little bids here and there just because I like the stocks vibe.
Grabbed 8 shares of REE at, like $6 each. Set the sell for $9.
Put in bids for JOAN, 5 shares @ $9 && 5 more @$8.
and a bid for SCND, 8 shares @ $6.25.
I'm basically treating this like a video game, or horse race with tiny bets until I get more sophisticated.
The strategy for these moves was just to look for recent big drops in price and buy the ones I think have bottomed out. Did a little research on news and weeded out ones that looked like they might bottom out completely. One of them was a meme stock that got bumped like 600% and was already about halfway back down. I didn't get that one.

ABNB did pretty well today aswell but seems like it's getting kinda expensive to me. This whole market seems kinda crazy to me but it also makes some sense that there would be a high degree of confidence in equities bouncing back from the pandemic madness

Got stopped out of the rest of my AAPL weeklies for a very small gain on the second half of the batch I put on yesterday. My October AAPL calls are suffering on the sizable move down today as well. Still up 15% on those, but they were up three times that much at the close yesterday. AAPL has a potential issue with Taiwan Semiconductor company raising production costs on their chips. This could squeeze AAPL's big profit margins on the iPhone, which leaves them with a difficult decision... either raise the price of the iPhone or eat the margin loss. Either way, it's not a positive for the stock as lost profit leads to lowered expectations, and a higher price can lead to reduced demand. So long as AAPL holds its 20 day moving average, I'll keep my core position. I may lighten up preemptively if the 8 day EMA breaks however.
AMZN started the day rather nicely, although hasn't been able to keep up the momentum, although is holding relatively well given the general market sentiment on the day. More or less sideways at the top of its range, still right above the 50 day moving average. So far, nothing wrong with the trend and I'm not closing the position. Keep in mind that the aggregate coronavirus concerns tend to be a tailwind for Amazon, as social restrictions and/or fear of going out tends to increase their home delivery business. $3435 remains my stop level.
Not doing anything else here. Just a wait and see kind of day. Wish I would have stayed aggressive on TSLA, but I've been doing a shit job managing my position size given its general volatility, and thus keep getting shaken out. I do have a bit of common stock in one account as more of a long term set it and forget it sort of play, but my trading style typically involves options and the outsized moves they make, so I don't tend to highlight (or even think about) my common stock exposure very often.

Hey, thanks for the pictures and info on the solar thing! ( same for everyone else, thanks!) It was a nice derailment for a minute from this stock thing.
Very cool and awesome. And solar is a great option. It's so cool how going off the grid can be done relatively easy and the start up costs of solar are coming down!
Edit: Nice garden!
About the stocks :
Can you or anyone else shed some light on any specific stocks to look at for a "set it and forget it" type deal?
I'm looking at investments for the long term and I'm considering stocks/gold/silver/bonds. But I want to diversify. I think you mentioned one time just buying the SPY for something like this.
But what sort of companies have you gambled on now that could go big in the future and you chose them for the "set it and forget it" type approach?
Any info will be helpful to me and others I'm sure!
Thanks again everyone for all that you guys share.

If you're truly just setting and forgetting, the SPY is all you need. You want some yield, maybe add in a bit of NLY. You want some big cap/tech/momentum, consider any of the usual suspects (AAPL, NVDA, AMZN, TSLA). As for what "could go big in the future"... I have no edge there. Your guess is as good as mine. Thing about that is, no one really knows what's going to go big until it DOES go big. You can read all sorts of clever articles and analysis on emerging technology, but unless you're an expert in the field under discussion, you're probably not going to have a whole lotta luck identifying what truly could be a breakthrough, let alone which company(ies) will be able to execute it profitably.

One my cousins desk partners pulls down a million a year and this year even more with like some insane spread sheet that looks at bunch metris if mid cap companies and once they reach certain sweetspot with numbers his system likes it executes the trade and he says more times than not the pop into the large cap and that's where he makes his money. He averages like 30% or something crazy and it's snowballed into an insane chunk money. I tried to pick his brain about it but didn't get very far. I thought he was just blowing smoke to get me to chip in but apparently not. Theyre both petroleum brokers so it was cool to see under the hood how that works and also got a look at a real bloomberg. They start trading that as shit as soon as it get in the pipe its crazy. His whole job is just a middle man between up and downstream and all these huge companies fighting over the supply and he knows the prices everyone is paying for everything so its like middling between how bad ur gonna fuck one side or the other on any given day. Big part of it is like not letting people know what deals your giving other people. It's pretty much complete bullshit it's like that episode of South park where he's trying to sell the fetuses and is like your ouch your breaking my balls. Thats lit what he sounds like on the phone all day it's a joke.. We'd def pay alot less for gas if everything was more transparent

Nice move back into normal territory for BA. The usual me would’ve had exposure but I tried to patiently wait for a more pronounced bottom. Not regretting it, just learning that there are no perfect cycles in trading. Still chilling on a heap of cash, I guess that’s fine until I have more time to weigh options
