I cheated and bought a very small position on COIN near the close yesterday, via Jan $250 calls (logic below). Crypto has improving technical structure with no giveback after some nice consolidation over the past few weeks. MARA is another one you'd want to be in, but I don't think I can buy it up here.

Watch COIN settling in here at its 50 day moving average. I would like to see it bounce around between its 50 day SMA @ $243.50 and its 200 day EMA at $280 for another week or two, to really firm up a support zone. If that happens, a subsequent move up and above its 200 day EMA @ ~$280 could be rather explosive. Coinbase's board of directors recently approved the purchase of $500 million in crypto assets, making COIN increasingly correlated to the movement of the crypto sector in general. This also gives them an advantage as a market maker, as they have extensive information on where money is going through their exchange. Market makers are required to provide an orderly exchange to benefit traders, and COIN's trading desk will have a huge edge because they can tag along with the order flow that they have first read/privileged access to. Note, I'm not buying this here, but I will be watching it for an opportunity.

Metal is king at this point and of course food.
There may, of course, come a day when this thesis proves true (indeed, for many Afghans, it is their present reality which may or may not yet be stabilized). But for time immortal, folks have been forecasting the end of empires. In most cases, they have ultimately been proven right, although I would suspect most of these doomsday prognosticators were only vindicated posthumously.
If you want to make money, you have to embrace the horror that there is no sure thing, do your best to identify trends and capitalize off of them. Diversify yourself, generally, so you aren't exposed to a single point of failure.
I have some gold, silver and palladium... I've been sitting on it since the early 2000's. By and large, it's done a whole lot of bupkiss. Yeah, I guess it provides a little extra comfort during times of market duress, but it sure as hell isn't doing for me what my home value, stocks and crypto have done, let alone labor based income streams such as starting a web hosting business in high school, a direct to customer online retail business in college, ultimately moving into rental property and even managing this website (even as for the bulk of my years here my work has been completely voluntary, however through effective financial management, now offers a modest but welcome yield in its maturity).
Don't bet on the end of the system is all I'm saying. From a probability standpoint, the system will be more durable than your life span.

SHOP is really threatening to move out of the squeeze here. The market yesterday just didn't give me a very positive feeling however, and I'm not about to get overly aggressive here. I have some very nice gains from the past couple of weeks, and I don't want to be too reckless as we head into a longer weekend. Keep in mind that although the headline job numbers released today were an upside surprise, that can paradoxically be taken as a negative, if institutions believe acceleration in the improving labor market may cause the Fed to react more quickly with regard to pulling back on bond purchases and ultimately raising interest rates. After all, they have held no qualms about highlighting "full employment" as their primary mandate.

I actually liquidated most of my holdings as well, save some TSLA. Had a really good push these past two weeks and am fine stepping away for the weekend without looking over my shoulder
Might take a glance tomorrow but will likely catch up with y’all next week. Have a great weekend!

Yes usually I would say that but " in these end of days times" the reality of this coming true ia more likely than ever.
Yes, I know, kingdoms and nations fall, warriors rise and wane like the shifting grains in the winds, however this one is different. It's going to be the biggest shitshow of a beast Humanity has ever seen.
" back in the day" world chaos was much more simple. Bad people basically stuck people with swords and raped and pillaged them. Now a days- with almost everyone having a gun, the dissolving of order into chaos will happen FAST.
Just look at the damn "storming of the capitol"
Anyways- to keep it on point. I also have a few silver coins but I guarantee a gallon of gasoline, a box of bullets and a box of canned food will be worth more than any amount of precious metal.

Rome didn't fall in a day, but these days everything happens at the speed of silicon and steel. We've streamlined everything, including empire collapse.
Up until a hundred or so years ago, if your country collapsed, things pretty much went on more or less the same, just under a different flag. Granted, "pretty much the same" was pretty bad, actually. Thanks to all the increases in productivity in the last century, a collapse would mean going back to what was considered a normal day back in the 17th century, which means you are an agrarian now, except you aren't, and productivity drops from "barely able to support 8 billion hairless apes" to "barely able to support 1 billion hairless apes and guess which side of that number you are on if you are not already an agrarian used to turning dirt into calories with your bare hands and maybe a pointy stick right now".
BTW, guess how many calories are in an ounce of gold. Feel free to google it if you need to.
While you still can.

Also for the gallon of gas, I drive an electric car, and can drop a solar grid on my own

An electric car with solar panels is a better post-collapse vehicle than a petroleum powered car. You will at least have the option of local travel, which will be very valuable.
A wood/biomass car would ostensibly be more valuable, but also higher maintenance.
Skills/abilities are, obviously, the most valuable since they cannot be stolen, nor can you simply kill someone and take their skills.Possessions are assets as well as liabilities in chaotic situations.
Soil is valuable in said situation, but ultimately not as valuable as the knowledge of what to do with it in the given situation. If you are someone with knowledge and experience in turning sun, water, and soil into calories (the most valuable resource for biological entities in a resource poor environment) you will have much less trouble finding allies who value your continued existence.

Hawt Dog!!! Look at those solar panels you got Geo!! I love it man.
Once we own a house in full the panels are going up . Any idea how many KWH you generate a day?
Quote:
Fiery said: can you drive around with enough solar panels in the car to charge it? that's really cool.
Theoretically yes. There was a guy who bought a bunch of panels, the inverter, and a few batteries, threw those in the trunk of his Nissan Leaf and hooked up the panels. In good sun I think he charged 20 miles a day.
Not a ton but for local travel in a post apocalyptic world, you’re set for life right there
Now, panels off the roof of your house generating 30+ KWH per day, you can drive 100 miles a day no problem
