Onto stocks, was stopped out of pretty much everything this morning, am kind of disappointed in some of my choices looking at the results of this week. Think I am leaving the account mostly cash, will reflect and regroup for next week. Sometimes it’s good to take a break .

Geo I did set an order for MARA however it did not drop to that level. I might take some small exposure there as the Crypto space does seem to be moving in the right direction.

Of course, moments after I post about MARA, crypto takes a pretty deep swoon :crazy2:.  I have trimmed or exited all equity positions in my account.  Completely out of RIG, PENN and NNDM for now, but will keep them on my screen for opportunities to re-enter.  I even lightened up on MARA, since I have so much exposure to crypto directly, it's a little silly that I'm trying to juice it on the equity side as well.  Important to maintain some balance.

Don't sweat little swings mick.  You necessarily have to take some losses from time to time.  Just make sure you keep them small, and don't let any potential despair morph into a hands off and reckless strategy of "hope".  That's when the losses can get really deep (I've been there... and it's why I took most of 2020 off in fact).  Circling the wagons, not stressing over the weekend and coming in with a clear head next week is a good call.

I wish we had decent commission free brokers in Canada. I don't think there is any, maybe Wealth simple but they get us with conversion rates and other things AFAIK so it isn't really the same as you guys in the US. Since a lot of the stocks I look at are on US exchanges, that kinda defeats the purpose if I get screwed on conversion rates.

Maybe one day we will have better platforms here. Right now I'm paying $4.95 per trade basically (it's like $0.01 cents a share but a minimum charge of $4.95 and my buys aren't that large)

If any Canadians know of better options, let me know. Maybe there is a bank I don't know about with better rates :shrug2:.

Again those companies are hot piles of garbage about to go bankrupt of course they had them shorted up to thier eyeballs. These people then colluded with eachother to manipulate the market and steal money and called it "karma." Idk why people think robinhood was doing anything illegal. All I know is there's going to be a big ole investigation into all this and you know fucking somebody is gonna be in hot water. But there you go retards.

Reddit is open information. Its not illegal when its public knowledge. I heard that Citadel (RH's parent company) had increased their short position hours before haulting trading for retail, which tanked the market. All the big players had full access to trades during this time. That's market manipulation. Reddit users just like the stock

So you don't think there should be any regulations to prevent massive over shorting of stocks (138% of float or whatever it was in the case of GME)
And that things should continue as is?

I'm not picking either side here, just curious your take on that specific point

I mean you guys know im a pro regulation guy. I mean why shouldn't they? Like that other guy said there's the obvious risk but what happened here was market manipulation plain and simple.

Thanks in response to both your posts Geo, Kryptos. I am highly curious to see how this all unfolds over the coming year. I am ultimately here to invest but these events do somehow seem significant to trading in general. Here is the article I read: https://in.finance.yahoo.com/news/robinhood-reportedly-sells-gamestop-shares-163340167.html

Onto stocks, was stopped out of pretty much everything this morning, am kind of disappointed in some of my choices looking at the results of this week. Think I am leaving the account mostly cash, will reflect and regroup for next week. Sometimes it’s good to take a break .

If you're here to invest, then just open a Vanguard account and invest in one of their target date funds. I have a set and forget weekly withdrawal that hits the roth/401k caps and an account for spillover that goes over the caps. That's my investment.

As I said earlier, I'm not a trader, but I do occasionally throw a spare paycheck at long shot bets. It's money I'm okay with losing. I did that with CCL back in march/april (made a thread about it), and I did that with GME. CCL was a winner (due to bailouts). GME I think is going to be a winner next week. I don't consider that investing, more gambling. In the case of GME, it looks like a massive game of chicken between WSB and hedge funds.

Part of why I think the GME gamble will pay off is because the rest of the market is tanking. Heck, APPL went down a few percent the same day they announced that they beat their expected earnings by ~5%. To me, that seems like hedge funds are pulling some of their other positions to fund their side of the GME chicken.

Also, I like how facebook banned the RH stock traders group for "adult sexual exploitation".

Guess the Hedge Funds are getting fucked in the ass without their consent:lol:

So robinhood CEO says trading was halted due to clearinghouse type regulations. I had wondered how that would come into play on this. Cuz ever notice if you trade on robinhood your essentially trading blind and they just lock you into whatever price they feel like at the time? Thats cuz your not actually trading in a market your giving robingood money and thier executing huge amounts of everyones trade. That among other things is how they make thier money. So when market manipulation like this happens they simply suspend trading till the dust settles and everything gets sorted out.

Im kinda sketched out with the whole market at this point.

I was already worried the market was a bubble with an inevitable crash coming, now everything with the gme fiasco and the continued short squeezes and the corruption from big money...

Not sure how i feel about all this.

Most of you probably know im very new to investing, is this something anyone else has thought about?

This is one of those moments where yeah, the game is rigged, but you don't have an option to not play.

Bubble or no bubble, if you're not in the market, they'll use inflation to take your money.

To help hedge against both a market crash and inflation, i am thinking international stock, stock with large export outside the us, crypto, tech, raw materials, gold, silver, steel?
