I had some great trades today, but lacked the conviction to stick with them as they fluctuated. Ended up about 2% up instead of 20 or 40%. Closed out of everything in my options trading account, and will go back to sticking with my long term holds.

Got shooken out and couldn't bear it. Its mentally too tough on me, but I walk away without a loss of principle capital and will stay away until I forget my lesson in 6 or 8 months.

Totally get the mental fatigue.  This in particular is a really tough environment unless you're a very seasoned trader with a very quick trigger.  The volatility is really whippy, which increases option premium as well as the bid/ask spread, so even a small shakeout can result in a larger than usual loss.  I took some paper cuts, and have given back about 1/3 of the gains I had on that mountain of puts I went into the new year with.

Come to think of it, getting away from the market next week will probably be a really good idea... I was getting a little cocky there.  In fact (and of course it took me all week to remember this ), I remember hearing from some big money guy that his firm required its traders to take a mandatory vacation after they had a really big success.  It helps keep the ego in check and prevents you from being a gunslinger.  I've admittedly been trading in way larger blocks that usual this week, and that's part of the reason I gave up a pretty decent chunk of my gains.  Need to remember to check myself a little more, so as not to get caught up in the dopamine rush of it all.  Amazing how quickly these bad habits can resurface.  I'm shaming myself here in hopes that it'll help me keep a better handle on my emotional side in the future, when doing analytical work.

Has anyone looked at a short interest in WTW, Weight Watchers?

150% debt to assets, negative equity, and trades at a PE of 17 even after the 25% plunge last week, and junk rated debt.
http://www.bloomberg.com/gadfly/articles/2016-01-05/oprah-s-weight-watchers-rescue-is-uphill-battle

Bloomberg argues that Weight Watchers is promoting fitbit and has basically made itself obsolete through its competitors software, even with Oprah's backing.

Interest expense is almost 25% of gross profit with hugely declining subscriptions.

Sup guys...here's my take for this week.

High put/call ratio from last week and options expiration this week smells like rip to the upside...Also, I see nothing but bears everywhere.  Looking for 1985-2000 SPX close this week.

I bought 2000 shares of AAPL last week the day it was down 5% at the end of the day, so I own it at $95 with the covered call that expired.  Just a trade, ultimately I think AAPL is done for awhile, the growth story in the name is dead.  Most non-growth companies trade at a P/E of 8 to 9, and AAPL is a 10 right now.

It was interesting to see the market bounce around like it did on friday, and then on the last hour before close, just take a nose dive. IMO thats people closing out positions over the weekend to insulate them from any turmoil and developments that might occur on no trading days.

On another note, it looks like china is off to a rough start this morning, Shanghai composite index is down about 2.5 percent off the bat, im betting that the rest of the world markets will follow suit, and well see continued losses through the coming week.

Certainly not 6 months since I stopped short term day trading :ahahaha: , but I think I'll pick up some $22 Calls for SWHC ahead of the State of the Union Address for friday's expiry.

Those leveraged ETFs have huge rollover fees. If you hold them too long they eventually go to almost zero. Its more of a short term tool than something you hold for more than a few weeks.

Same with the VXX, YANG, or other ETF's that matches leveraged returns on a daily close basis

I bought some puts on the FXC for next month. Bank of Canada meets next week. The FXC option chain doesn't have much volume. I'm really wishing there was another tool for trading currency with my current platform. Might have to shop around.

I've been having lots of luck on buying puts in the past week or two. China looked fairly fucked over night, and Bank of Canada has a rate cut meeting at 11:15am today.

Brazil has a central bank meeting today too.

Hope everyone is making some lucrative profits out there. :scott:

Order was filled. Fuck yes.

I flip those shits and turn out that money.

What a fucking day. 430 points on the dow. I would hate to be long.

Canadian dollar spiked up a bit when BoC said they wouldn't cut, but less than an hour later it went back to trading lower. I wouldn't be surprised to see it close to .63 by end of February, and maybe below 60 as some banks shake out their bad loans in April.

ECB meets tomorrow. S&P is looking oversold, but oil keeps hammering lower. I think a lot of tech shorts were covering this afternoon, but who knows?

Closed below August 2015 low of 1867. 1814 is 15% below the peak, and also the April 11, 2014 low. 20% is your 1707.

Ok,

So i think that the oil run nations arent willing to take these lower prices for much longer, and that theyll start a skirmish or battle in the gulf that will restrict oil exports, and squeeze the market.

So How would I go about betting on oil futures At 100 a barrel, or 150 a barrel? could anyone show me how to set that up?

Easiest way would be to outright buy OIL, HOU, or USO. You could also buy calls out of the money on those. You could also buy an oil major, or calls on them like XOM, or COP.

As Russia, Canada, and Brazil's petro currencies all hit multi-year lows today you maybe a little early to the party.

I feel like I should get 5x to 10x returns on my money for such an outlandish bet at this point, will purchases of those stocks pay off like that?

how to i buy calls out of the money on those?
