Stock Update for September 1, 2015 [Re: geokills]

Market continues to deteriorate, added to the GILD Oct $105 puts I started buying yesterday, with a stop above today's intraday high ~$104.
Although generally reporting with a bearish slant, there is an awful lot of ugly truth being aggregated over on http://www.zerohedge.com - I'd recommend making the site a regular part of your study.
Buying the dips has worked for years, but this time sure feels different. Fast, violent and unpredictable moves are what makes the market in front of us. Foolhardy to trade too large with so many gaps. Be safe and good luck!

what supports market? you know penny stocks move in volumes 10x less and cost ten times less than the main market movers. I feel actually realy safe in penny stocks. even my ventures. I actually took some debt to invest recently. It's nice the bank does like little loans but I can pay them back this week, so I own them without overhead. I actually really want to get apple before long, I think I know nothing about the stock but I know somethings about to happen with apple. I woulnt buy without reasonable P/E and a lower dividend, I'm not sold on dividends at all. seems dumb to me. like I perscrive to the knowledge of profits goign to R&D/growth over paying the owners of company. lol seems dumb to pay out profits to people that just mindlessly threw money at a company like take a good idea for example a good company it is making money then what it starts IPO and then enters market, now what it owes the market share holders for some reason? what do companys benefit by entering free market? thank you. I got ONC for .72 even though .71 would ahve worked, I know its going to work this september trials, i know it will doesnt matter if people want cure or not it will work.
sorry no editing but: edit: you got I mean you know how much money does the market need? is it past its limit in amount of oney market needs or will we see move from billions into trillions? if then, everyone will be rich and we will be exploiting earth at exponential rate. could we talk about potential % gains? I know 8% seems like a good return but what kind of investor is making regular 20% obviously if you knew you would take that way and get that yourself. maybe there is a way. I was thinking how to make a living investing sry to spam I know alot to learn and I'm asking lots of questions for the sake of asking the right one.

I like to gamble, but taking out loans to buy penny stocks is too risky even for me. I only invest disposable income.
Geo, I took a cue from something you said a few days ago and decided to short VXX yesterday. November $14 puts. Despite the increased volatility today I think this is a winner, the market will eventually settle down.

On shorting volatility, be very careful right now. Read: http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-09-01/vix-etfs-are-crisis-mode
Patience is incredibly important here. Last Monday, I opened some VXX Jan $20 puts @ $3.60, 1/4 position size with the intent to build up rapidly in expectation of a relatively quick reversion to the mean. However, the violent and unpredictable action of the past week has staved off any additional purchases on this position, as I will wait until we see definitive signs of a break in the volatility trend higher before putting additional capital at risk. I think this is wise, as the 1/4 position I hold is already down more than 50% in just over a week's time. I would expect that we can see the VXX better than double from where it sits right now, which would absolutely destroy a November $14 put position. Frankly, I do not expect the VXX to see sub-$20 levels again this year. If you have a large position on those November $14 puts, I would encourage you to consider scaling back so that you will have more firepower available for what I expect will be another leg higher. I do expect that the time will come where a short on volatility will be an absolutely beautiful trade, but we aren't there yet. If we do see another jump in volatility, wait for some sign of reversal before shorting, as this thing can go a whole lot higher. If you are doubtful, zoom out to a weekly or monthly chart on the VXX, UVXY, and SVXY and see where these things have been.

It's not a large position. Not large enough to bother selling it in parts. I was planning to sell as soon as the VXX approached $20, but now maybe I'll get out closer to 25 if I can. I agree that anything bellow 20 seems unlikely anytime soon. I think/hope that concerns over China are overblown, and once we get past this September Fed meeting I think things will settle. If volatility continues to rise through September I probably will add to my short position.
I got beat up shorting oil yesterday, then made a decent portion of it back today and sold for a loss. So close to timing it right... I should probably stop throwing money at coin-flip short term bets like this.

TravelerOfSorts, please make more of an effort to organize your thoughts so that they are expressed clearly and concisely, it takes an inordinate amount of time and concentration to decypher your posts in their current form. Ultimately, people will stop responding to you if it takes so much effort to understand you. No disrespect, only constructive criticism intended.

TravelerOfSorts said: I'm not sold on dividends at all [...] seems dumb to pay out profits to people [...] [a company] owes the share holders for some reason? what do companys benefit by entering free market?
Dividends act as a support mechanism for a company's stock, because they are typically paid as a predetermined cash value, and thus, the %-yield will increase as the stock's price goes down. Example, a $1 annual dividend on a $10 stock yields 10% each year. But if the stock drops to $7, that $1 dividend will yield 14.3% annually, provided you purchase at the lower price. This inverse relationship produces buying support on stocks with attractive dividend yields, thus protecting them from the downside they may experience if they did not distribute cash flow to shareholders.
The capital markets are a source of funding for a company. If, for example, a company wants to finance a high growth strategy that necessitates a lot of capital investment beyond what they obtained from their IPO or what they could obtain from other debt instruments, they can do what is called a secondary offering, whereby they issue new public stock shares. This dilutes current stock holders, but if the company is strong and can maintain a dividend, these stock holders are likely to stick around and may even buy into the secondary offering. Hence, why it is important for public companies who may need to raise additional future capital, to do everything they can to keep their share prices as high as possible.

Check out x22 report and x22 spotlight on youtube. Dave gets a little wordy but really digs for information particularly on the international war situation. Looks like he may be right about the coming economic collapse as well. I do have to disagree at how much faith many of his guests have for gold, but they could end up 100% right if physical gold is all you end up with. Still, the notion that we will be magically entering hyperinflation for gold seems a whim at best at least for a few years minimum.
