Thanks for the advice about FB geo, I didn't pull the trigger and it turned out to be a good learning experience. I am very new to investing, but am planning on pooling about $500 of my monthly income towards commodities/stocks; I dont make much (2200/mo), and am trying to expand my earning potential.
Are there any books you would recommend for a beginning investor? I would like to learn how to read potential investments better. Right now any investment I make seems like a gamble.
I just picked up this book and will see what I can get from it

how do you feel about crude oil? i feel that as a potentially extremely limited resource it is bound to make a big leap over the next several years. how would you consider it as a long term investment?

Thank you all for your responses. I will start doing my homework. To answer your question, almost every investment I plan to make is looking years out. Something I can let sit for 10+ years, unless I felt it was naturally a great time to pull out.

so ive been watching that CBIS company that some guy recommended earlier in one of these threads. I know the whole betting on penny stocks is a big risk and all that, but the trend seems to be at its low point for this organization. Once they reach 1 penny I will put a few hundred into it and forget about it.
If the company ever comes up to .25 cents like it has before ill sell. maybe it will dump and ill lose out, but whatever. whats $500 in the longrun for a little gamble

I am thinking of putting a third of my portfolio (about $1800) into crude (USO). I am with scottrade and believe this is the closest i can come to trading the commodity.
Am going to wait and see if it continues to dip. If it hits at or below $50 a barrel I will definitely take a position

I purchased 90 shares of USO today at $21.40. Am long. It's at some pretty historic lows and while oil could slide further there is more potential for long term growth. If it continues to fall I will simply buy more and wait out the inevitable cycle.
Will be contributing another $5500 to my Roth soon and am wondering where to put it . Overall am down $1000 this year due to 3D printing companies taking a dive. I did look at this long term but kinda feel like I got in at the worst possible time (the stocks fell 30% out of nowhere like a week after my entry)

I was being half facetious writing that. It has seemed to me forever that the markets are not aligned with reality. But at the same time my bets that it would falter have all but withered in the shadows.
How would you position yourself at this moment?

Have 6k for my retirement (roth ira) this year, and am thinking about throwing all of that at TSLA this year. It would otherwise go into a fund of somekind but I dont have a specific target.
Tesla seems like a decent shot with their recent acquisition of new battery tech and some china factory that should open up soon. I would just hold it forever I guess. They took a big dip from their december price so I think its an ok spot to enter, but maybe I am missing something that a pro here understands.
Any thoughts?

have been paying attention to CGC since you had started mentioning it Geo - am wondering if there is a decent buy opportunity at its $31 pricepoint (considering you thought $38 was a good buypoint), or if you think there is a good reason its going down, and perhaps staying down. Did the drop trigger a stop for you?
I have $1000 left to invest this year and in a couple weeks will likely throw it at CGC.

CGC continues to fall... I am wondering when it will stop, or if it is an indicator that this particular organization is not going to succeed.
"Canopy Growth stock slid 1.6% in the stock market today. The stock's Composite Rating is a 5, out of a best 99, among the lowest possible. As Canopy loses money, its EPS Rating, a reflection of profit growth, is 1, the worst possible. IBD recommends investors focus on stocks with Composite Ratings in the 90s."
https://www.investors.com/news/marijuana-stocks-canopy-growth-stock-constellation-loss/
I dont know what the above means - composite rating, but does that mean stay away? Otherise I am still looking at this as a buy opportunity as it continues to fall.

TSLA has gone berserk over the past year.
It is curious to me as the company still posted a net loss in 2019 - which makes me think this is all hype money coming in? I am wondering what people think of the future of this stock, it cant keep going up with this trajectory forever - would you buy, sell or hold long-term?

i just put in an order to sell all my holdings of TSLA. It was in a Roth since last year and has more than tripled my balance. I am going to diversify into some blue chip dividend stocks and go from there. Needed a boost getting into the retirement game a bit late and am considering this a nice little win to get the account started. Couldve maximized profits at $960 a week ago but im not a stock market expert. Merely luck and im happy to have any profits.
Am hoping the stock dips again, even to the $500 range. If it does ill buy in again with this years contributions. Any of the experts here agree with this move or should I have stuck with a winning horse?

Thanks for the response guys. I had the order in but today happened to be a holiday. My wife has convinced me to pull the order and consider selling half or less, thus taking a small portion to diversify but still keeping a decent exposure to the company. Reading this makes me think it is a better idea to have a bit of both worlds .
