Blue oysters on straw log

Well after botching my first attempt at making cubensis straw logs I have been happy with how my blue oysters are turning out. Very quick and easy. I made these 2 logs on 12/23 and birthed on 12/30 when I saw about 3-4 pin clusters under the plastic (only 7 days!) Incubation was done at 70-75f and fruiting is at 63-65f. 1 Qt rye spawn was used per 4" x 18" log:
1/2/08 , 3 days after birthing, Have a little bit of fluorescent light above and natural light from window:

1/3/08 , 4 days fruiting , pretty blue caps everywhere:

nice. i will inoculate some jars with blue oyster today. I can not wait. Keep the fae up, as you probably already know. In the wild oysters 99% of the time form above of the ground which allows for 100% fresh air. This is why they are grown on hanging colums. Let that o2 fall to the ground

I'm following RR's straw log tek where the plastic only needs to be vented once a day. There are slits cut in the plastic draping the logs to allow some moderate fae as well.

When I wrote that straw log tek five years ago, another species was in mind. You'll want to air it out more often with oysters, as they're extremely CO2 intolerant. If the CO2 is high, they'll have a baseball bat look to them, as yours are starting to get. If light is not bright enough, they'll develop into a coral type formation. Find that happy spot, and they'll get nice and meaty. Colder fruiting temps take a bit longer, but you get a thicker, meatier fruit.
I'd go ahead and open it up to the air, and use misting if necessary to make up for the lost moisture. Oysters love to be misted, so don't stress that it's going to abort or anything. RR

So should I get rid of the plastic sheet over top of it altogether and just mist RR or just keep it loosely draped over? How often should I mist? I don't really have the time to mist every 3-4 hours.

One possibility with a small enclosure is to cut out one whole side out of it and place a cool mist humidfier where part of the mist blows in through the missing wall. That should give plenty of fresh, moist air. Larger greenhouses work better for that reason than smaller ones, which seem to get stale air quicker. RR

(please move this thread to edibles if necessary)
1/5/08: 6 days fruiting I have more 2" holes cut (9 total) for these two logs now to increase FAE:

Lots and lots of oysters:

Largest cluster up close:

More:

And a larger 8" diameter log in my FC room fruiting in the open air at 75% with 4-5x misting a day. (I plan to up the rh more soon):
