Like folding@home? Try SETI@home!
    #7826701 - 01/03/08 09:08 AM (16 years, 29 days ago)

Same kind of deal as the protein folding, but this one is dedicated to discovering extra-terrestrial life.  I'm still researching the legitimacy of the software but I'll most likely lend a helping PC.

I used to run SETI@home back in early high school. science then I've run across a few other similar programs too. SETI and FOLDING seem to be the best but I sometimes question the importance of SETI.

With Seti@home there's only a very small chance that they'll ever find anything. It would be awesome if they detect a signal, but unless they do, all the work is basically for nothing. With Folding@home you know all the results are getting used.

Folding is much more useful.
We're working on actual protein models - part of everyone's physical bodies.

Seti is the possible discovery of life in other parts of the universe.
Even if we were to find something, how would this benefit us?
I agree, it's a very exciting concept, but not all that useful.
