I have seen links to PDFs of this fine book before.

Does anybody know of any up to date links?

This is one of the best books ever. I recommend buying a hard copy. They're purple and square.

I'll upload it for you, it'll take me a bit. I'll edit this post with the file when it is finished. For everyone who downloads it, send me a PM and let me know if you enjoy it as much as I do. It's a great thing to soak up whilst dosing.

This is my own personal file, not a random link I found, so merry late Christmas!

I have the online version, but i also have the hard copy. It really is worth it to pick up the actual book, its a really special piece. Book has taught me so much, and im still learning.... Read the brown pages while tripping sometime too, it will engulf your mind. Not that it doesn't do that while you're sober

The version i have cost $3.33, now they sell it for $14.14

Somebody needs to sticky this motherfucker. Anyone having a "bad trip" should immediately open it and recite his lyrical praise of life, imho.

Well he considers "coming down" from the psychedelic state a problem and the main one regarding tripping. He didn't try to apply anything he had learned from those psychedelic states to the normal sobriety, instead he wished he was able to never come down. He just wished the trip could last forever, which I definitely disagree with, the psychedelic mind state is a vulnerable but amazing one - certainly not one I want to be in 24/7.

No I'm not; what happened is you said a statement and didn't leave any valuable input after the fact. Tell me where I went wrong? I know for a fact he discusses that exact thought process in the book.

There is even a story of him and some others dosing in a house for an extended period of time, and he was disappointed to find after eating so many doses and for so long that he still returned to the previous state of mind once he came down.

The story is correct, but slightly taken out of context. Before he found spirituality in india, he was constantly in a position of trying to push away the low of what he perceived as normal consciousness for the high of the LSD experience. This is just a story to set the background of the book -- the story is found in the introduction of Be Here Now. Be Here Now is all about how he got beyond that mentality, not how he dwelled in it.

On a side note, it sounds like you only read part of the introduction and put it down. suggest getting a hard copy and reading it through; reserve judgement until after you've read it from cover to cover please.

This is exactly what I meant to say.

This is probably true, I remember reading into his travels as well but this was years ago. The introduction probably threw my interest off.

This book helped me out on my first 1/8th trip of mushrooms. Damn that was a crazy trip, but this book seriously brought me back to relative sanity. It made me understand when understanding was pretty much out of the question.

I feel like the middle section of the book is made up of all those little realizations and truths you have while tripping, but you forget afterwards. Because Ram Dass tripped thousands of times, he was eventually able to remember and write down the revelations. It's such a great resource for anyone that wants to figure things out or have a spiritual trip.

True spirituality is found within. The answers MUST be found by ourselves for them to hold meaning; nothing teaches us like experience. And I never forget any of those revelations or realizations from my trips, I forget to apply them, which is something that can be worked through with ease. A spiritual person and intellectual mind can find all the answers Ram Dass has, and more. It has to ring true for your personal life path and situation, yes I believe there are universal truths, but they won't truly impact someone from simply reading a book/being spoon fed spiritual wisdom. There is no single rule for everyone. We must "figure things out" through our experiences in life (mistakes, successes, failures, emotional fluctuation), if someone is open to the idea, you can really transform all the negative out of your life.

If you have read the book, you know the importance of a guru; a wise, more experienced person who shows you the path to enlightenment. I said that Dass' book is a resource, not that you should read it instead of experiencing things for yourself.

Don't roll your eyes, it's condescending and childish. Just because Ram Dass says you need a guru doesn't mean one is necessary, don't kid yourself haha, that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Apparently, as the poster above says even the book you claim to support so much even drives this point home, that the power is within yourself. An intellectual and spiritual mind who travels the psychedelic head space can achieve the same knowledge, with or without being steered in the right direction.

Edit: nevermind, this doesn't deserve a response.
