venomous trichocereus??
    #7824884 - 01/02/08 06:59 PM (16 years, 30 days ago)

Today I read that peruvian torch's have venom glands in their spines and when pricked they will make the pricked area swell up. Is this really true?

Source ?

If anything I'd say it's more likely to be a bacterial/fungal infection from foreign growth on the spines.
It would be good to have a closeup picture of the "venom gland" if there are any.

i dont know that doesn't really make that much sense to me.

if you get pricked, it's going to swell up normally as your body's reaction.

i haven't found anything that says this is true..

but it could be a hybrid or variation that this can be true for.

i dont really know much about psychedelic cacti.. just plants in general so maybe someone else can offer you more insight than I..

I get pricked a lot and when that happens most of the time the tiny tip of the spine breaks off under my skin. If I take it out with a needle it is fine after that but if I leave it in it could get infected.
