Starbucks is the Devil?

I know a lot of people that won't drink coffee at Starbucks, or even go in the place.
The only reason I don't buy from them, is because I don't drink coffee too often, and because they take business from culturized, mom and pop businesses.
But does anyone here have a reason not to buy from Starbucks other than the fact that it is a large business?
It uses fair trade, and it isn't to bad at controlling itself as far as I've heard.
Because the same people that I know are against Starbucks, buy food from taco bell and other fast food restaurants, and I don't want to be an ass and point it out to them by asking why.
So why don't you buy from starbucks if you don't?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starbucks
"Of the approximately 136,000 tonnes (300 million pounds) of coffee Starbucks purchased in 2006, about 6 percent was certified as fair trade"
that fair trade stuff starbucks keeps flaunting is only a safety mechanism from people hating them even more. Starbucks keeps buying out more and more coffee companies, for what? they already more or less have a monopoly, they recently bought out all of Deitrichs and are now trying to get Coffee Bean too.
and their coffee tastes like shit as well.

I love the smell of roast coffee beans. But I doubt they'd let me just go there and stick my nose in the hoppers.
One day, when they make cocaine legal, that place is going to be so funny.

Does anyone know the URL of that site where you can keep track of what large corporations and businesses are currently doing?
I know some one posted a link to that a while back, and I forgot to bookmark that site.

Starbucks Java Chip Frappuccino =
Say what you will about the place but if you like coffee, they have good coffee. Everything else about the place I really don't pay attention to. If you don't like coffee don't drink it. If you don't like Starbucks go somewhere else, quit bitching.
This isn't directed at anyone but a lot of people bitch way to much about Starbucks. Its good coffee and its fast sometimes.

Is it them that bitch too much, or you that mind their bitching too much?
But yes, a lot of people make a huge production out of it, I agree. I don't like to point out my beliefs to other people. I just follow them. Most of my friends didn't know I was a vegetarian until they were joking about it, and then asked me if I was one.

My comment was mainly due to my disgust after attending CU in Boulder. The fucking professors preach about how Starbucks & Walmart are the devil instead of teaching their classes. Such fucking bullshit. Like I said I wasn't directing it to anyone, I was just getting my frustration out about my fucking education.

Not certified Fair Trade, and I don't like the way they roast their beans. Although when I have had a taste of the "foo foo" type drinks, (which I usually hate) they taste good. The beans, for me anyway seem to work much better with all the sugary crap.

wow Mup .. sometimes you're pretty smart.
starbucks tastes like ass. my ex boyfriend works in coffee and he refuses to go there because their beans aren't really that great of quality he says and he knows a lot about coffee. only thing i like from starbucks (and it's not even technically from the starbucks place) are those vanilla frappucinos in the glass bottles you can pick up at convenience stores. i don't like them from the actual place though, they taste weird.

I don't go to Starbucks because I don't want to pay too much for inferior coffee. Personally I think Starbucks coffee sucks. Always tastes burnt to me. And I don't think anyone will dispute that it is overpriced.
I could give a fuck about their business practices, anyone who provides a good cup at a reasonable price gets my business. I don't care if it is grown by child slave labor in a shithole third world country.

Seriously though, 99% of the coffee I drink is brewed at home.

I've worked at various coffee shops throughout the years and I think the only argument someone can have against starbucks is that they run out small business.
Honestly, their coffee is not that bad. I think most people who bitch about them just want to be pretentious and hold their nose up high. They are the same people that watch Michael Moore and smoke American Spirits.

I admit that when it comes to what I put in my body, be it food, air, coffee, weed, wine, whatever I DO have my nose up high. No I'm not the guy that if you invite me out for a cup of coffee and we go to Starbucks I'm gonna complain or ask to drive and extra 20 minutes so we can go to a fair trade place, but their beans are over roasted (as I said, I think it's due to the fact that the acidity balances the crazy sugar levels in the foo foo drinks that every high school girl loves) and I truly love great coffee. As I do wine and beer.
But not all of us who are choosey are butt wipes about it.

Yeah man, a great organic (I'm not going to get into a debate about this, but coffee is #1 on my list of food products that I can tell the difference in, and) Ethiopian or Mexican from the french press here at the house with maybe a pinch of sugar and it's go time.
We do have a great little drive up hut here in my crappy town that serves great beans, at great prices, but since we got 2 new starbucks, they're hardly ever open. It is sad, but so is almost everything involving America these days.
I need to quit talking about this. I'm working my way into one of my "no coffee streaks" and I'm gonna break if I'm not careful.

i recently visited nyc for the holidays. whenever i go i walk around for an hour or so along a path i used to habitually follow so that i can remember all the memories from that area.
one of the memories is this starbucks that i would always go into to use the bathroom, or to sit in the corner and trip on dxm, or just to get out of the cold and kill time.
i went in and bought a drink for the first time, i felt like i was conquering the hobo in me or something. 3$ and change for a medium hot chocolate.
edit: for 3$ i felt like i bought proof that i was an average, respectable person equal to everyone else there. i think thats the real lure of starbucks.
