I recently had two brief encounters with Salvia that I thought I'd share, but first a bit of background. I'm 30 years old, have smoked weed fairly regularly for about 7 or 8 years now, and have tripped on mushrooms once (still the most satisfying experience of my life), just over a month ago. I've had no experience with any other psychedelics, though I am interested in trying others (especially DMT and mescaline). I first heard about Salvia through this site, and bought 1 gram of 7x extract at a local head shop just over a week ago.
The package recommended 1/6 of 1 gram for a dose, which seemed small to me, but I didn't have a sitter available, and I wanted to try it that night, so I eyeballed approximately 1/6, and loaded it into James Bong, my beloved water pipe. I put on Portishead's "Dummy," turned off the lights in my room, sat on my bed, and cleared the bowl in one hit. I immediately decided I should turn the music off, and I felt a bit drunk when I tried to stand up, but I shut it off and got back into bed, then immediately started to sweat. I took off my shirt, got under the covers, and fell asleep, only to have some of the most vivid, complex dreams that I can recall ever having (even though I remember nothing about them). I awoke the next morning feeling unbelievably refreshed, confident, and clear-headed about facing my day.
The overall pleasantness of the experience was enough to encourage me to attempt a repeat on New Year's Eve...I wanted to have more dreams like that, and I wanted to feel more of that confidence. Around 1:30 AM I went into my bedroom, packed another bowl (the second bowl was slightly larger than the first one, but just barely, because I still didn't have a sitter), and cleared my mind in preparation. I shut off the lights, sat on the bed (shirt already off this time, and no music), took a deep hit, held it for about 15 seconds, cleared the bowl, held the second hit for closer to 30 seconds, then started to lay back on the bed as I exhaled.
As I began to lay back, I heard a voice on my right - a child-like, sing-song kind of voice - and I realized someone was trying to get past me, but I was in the way. I thought to the voice, "Oh, sorry, let me get out of your way," then my head fell onto my pillow, I closed my eyes, and two two-dimensional "beings" (for lack of a better word) began to cross the space above my face and chest, as if they were crossing an arched bridge that spanned the width of my bed. I couldn't see any features that indicated the figures were human, but it seemed very much like a classic farmer (denim overalls, straw hat, red flannel shirt) and his wife (in a Little House on the Prairie-type dress). The sing-song voice kept repeating whatever it said the first time, before I moved out of the way, and the farmer and his wife kept crossing the bridge again and again - it made me think of a line of paper dolls holding hands.
This lasted for maybe a minute, and I continued to lay on my back, eyes still closed, covers pulled up just over my nose, as random memories from my childhood began to flash into my mind, only to disappear the moment I tried to focus on them. This lasted longer, maybe 5 minutes or so, and I was giggling a little the whole time. Throughout the entire experience, I felt cold and my entire body tingled, like little electrical shocks zapping my skin all over.
I don't remember having any dreams that night, and I didn't wake up with that same feeling of confidence, but I did wake up with a newfound respect for the power of Salvia (and also with the song "The Farmer in the Dell" in my head). Next time, I'm getting a sitter and filling the bowl.
