Would building a glove box using a cardboard box with Plexiglas on one side with 2 arms holes good enough or would you suggest something else?

whatever works best for you.
there are more effective/sterile ways to do it.. but a ghetto glovebox is better than no glovebox.

i wouldn't recommend cardboard but it might be better than open air depending on how clean your environment is

A glovebox works on the principal of still air, all that you aim to acheive from a glovebox is still air, so that any contaminants that are present dont get thrown around and land on your projects.
So yes it will work.

I use a cardboard glovebox with plastic wrap on the top. I lined the walls with foil so it's easy to clean. The holes for my hands are a bit tight tho...and I probably should have gone with a bigger box like the one above. But hey, it works and thats all that matters.

Don't mix terms, that is a still air box, not a glovebox.

Which is a still air box. They still work, and are, in my opinion, less of a pain to use, but they are not gloveboxes as there is not a glove stuck over the hole.

Thanks everyone for the help. Once I get all of my supplies I will see where my budget lies and will probably end up making one similar to Seventy's.

man i have got my holes cut into a plastic flip top bin but I can't get the gloves to secure to the holes. I have tryed to use like tyvek extenders but I can't get them right. I am using those yellow dish washing gloves. I got aggrivated after cutting like 3 tyvek envelopes and not getting it right. I will eventually get it i just got to look at more pics.

ok, u have a point there, but a box with gloves over the holes is still a still air box

The only negative side of using cardboard is that you can't sanitize the interior of the box with liquid detergents or disinfectants without soaking the box. With plastic bins, you can disinfect the inside (WITH HOPEFULLY SOMETHING NONFLAMMABLE, IF YOU PLAN ON USING A FLAME SOURCE INSIDE THE GLOVEBOX) before beginning work.

I won't have anything together for another week at least. I'm waiting to find out if I am going to be going back to school at the end of the month or if I am going to be staying home before I do anything.

I am making a glove box out of a flip top rubbermaid type container that is semi-transparent. I cut two whiles in the side of it by drawing them out with a market and a mardi gras cup and heating a knife repeatedly over a candle to cut them out. I am planning to use those yellow like rubber dishwashing gloves like many posts on here do. But the holes are too big, I have fucked up three tyvek envelopes trying to get the cut right, I have tried to cut straight sleeves and funnels I just can't get it so I can tape it to the outside of the box.
How the hell do you do it?
Here is some pics tyo help you understand.
sorry for hijacking your thread a bit but I figure it will help everyone
check it

Who needs the gloves attached? I've been using the still air, "box with holes," for years without probs. just clean your arms and gloves and shove them through the holes. Works like a charm.

hmm yea I was thinking that, does this work even for agar, that is the main reason that I built this box to do agar isolations. I hope to isolate and develop my own strain. Of course it will be called Katfish
